This shouldn’t surprise me considering the diocese I’m in, but yesterday I picked up our local diocesan newspaper to find a full page article glorifying two parishes that are having “Polka Masses” in school gymnasiums. Somebody help me!!

Obviously the bishop does not have a problem with it considering it’s in his newspaper. I’m just trying to imagine them singing “Gather us in” to the tune of “Roll out the Barrels” topped of with a liturgical chicken dance. :bigyikes:

I don’t even know where to go with this one. Our bishop is so liberal I know going to him would be useless. Should I send this article to the Vatican, or would that also be a waist of time?

Didn’t the Vatican already state it was a no-no? We had these here a few years back and then the bishop sent out a letter with some citation that said the practice must stop. I could be mistaken, but I believe the citation was from Rome.

Will see if I can find it if it exists…

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly happens at a polka mass? Does the name just refer to the style of music played or is there more to it?

Every year, we have a blessing of Polish Dance troops and a Polish Heritage Mass at the classic churches. NEVER do we have a stitch of Polka.

If this is in honor of the Poles, forget it. We have reverent Hymns in Polish. We pray hard and play hard and don’t mix the two. Period.

And yes, my girls come dressed in Folk costume but do not dance there.

Let me tell you something. I have a parish that does a once a year Polka Mass which I do not attend. (my spouse does not either and is 100 percent Polish) there is a Priest at my parish that on the side is in a Polka Band. he also has hawked his CD’s via the bulletin and just **before the Mass was officially over once. The CD’s were $15.00 smackers. **
You can now see why I dont go to it.

Have you heard Polka music? Personally, I dont like “Roll out the barrel”
but I am sure they dont (and pray they dont) play that one.

AAAAUUUUGGGGHHHHHH!
Oh my heart!
My friend, you know how to get my tummy churnin’!

I wish you could come over and see it all for yourself. I dont think MrS has enough pukey smilies to express what you would report back with. Just think of all the stuff I miss as a convert!
Ohhhhhh, now I’m whoosy.

Lord Help them!

By any chance, do you have a farm or two that you would like to bet on that???

MT
i’ll see that bet and raise it an oplatki.

Netmil(name removed by moderator) is not a kidder. You can bet on that.

Once out of the bathroom, I am sure N will come back.

Would you like a link to a “classic church” in her (our) diocese advertising a polka mass in conjunction with a pierogi festival? Would you like some hard evidence? Oui ou non?

MT

I guess I return to my original question. Is there any way to put a stop to this insult to the body and blood of Jesus Christ??

Please, Pope Benedict, save us!!! :gopray:

geez, whats next? fix up the image of Jesus?
style his beard, give him a new doo, get rid of those old robes and sandles and put him in a nice suit so he looks like the king of men. I really hope not.

Um, excuse me. I never stated that there are not Polka Masses in our diocese. (we have a pretty big diocese) Read it again.

I specifically mentioned the Mass for the Blessing of the Polish Troops and the Polish Heritage Mass.

WE do not have Polka Music. The point being that the Polish Community not individual parishes do not use Polka for Holy Mass.

You owe me the farm.
