GRRRR Polka Mass!

OK folks!! Come on. The TLM had abuses, too. They mumbled!! MUMBLED!!! Sometimes they said the MASS REAL FAST!!!

And let’s not forget the medieval Fools Masses. Those went on for years (So what if they were supressed)

Boy, all you guys do is complain!! There’s always been abuses. I, for one, can’t stand mumbling!!!

Who ever said there were NO abuses before Vatican II? :confused:

Sorry to complain. I guess I’ll just embrace these vile offenses against the body and blood of Jesus Christ as I do a liturgical chicken dance and wiggle my rear end right into the mouth of the worm that never sleeps.

Dude, must you always be so pigheaded when it comes to discussions about the Archdiocese of Detroit? Look closely: she said "Every year, we have a blessing of Polish Dance troops and a Polish Heritage Mass at the classic churches." There’s absolutely nothing in this sentence that says there aren’t Polka Masses at any of our classic churches. She was simply addressing the matter of the Polish Heritage Mass at these classic churches. Stop letting your agenda against our Archdiocese affect your reading comprehension abilities.
 
Well, I sort of feel left out. Although I am mostly German, I never got into polka music, but I do like Jimmie Sturr. Anyway, if we can have a rock Mass and a Polka Mass, why can’t we have a Country (music) Mass. I’m sure some of these modern musicians could modify the country classics to fit. Maybe I’ll suggest that to our priest. (Just kidding, don’t shoot)

I feel bad that I’ve never gotten to experience a Polka Mass, so maybe I can get in on the ground floor on this one. 😃
 
No polkas at Mass today!
While the EMs were alternately distributing Communion and blessing anyone who asked, we were serenaded with “The Little Drummer Boy” :eek: .

Let’s not kid ourselves this isn’t going on someplace. And the hiphop Mass. And the Nascar Mass. And the grunge metal Mass. Remember, we live in an age where we have to believe that any instrument and any genre of music and any theme can be “reverent.”

The hiphop mass is an Episcopalian liturgy which originated at a church in New York City. That has nothing to do with the Catholic Church or the Polka Mass.
 
As a young (25) Catholic, and a polka fan to boot, I’m confused. What would be wrong with a polka mass?

(Assuming it was done reverently)

Is there something about the polka music style that would be intrinsically irreverant? (For that matter, is there something about the gregorian chant music style that is intrinsically reverent?) And why?

I always thought that reverence would have more to do with the lyrics of the music and the attitude of the musicians/congregation, rather than the style of music?
