When we left mass tonight, we found that under the windshield wiper of every car was a stack of 6 sheets of paper stapled together from a male parishioner and his boyfriend. The handouts were basically their autobiography detailing their relationship and how unfair, unconstitutional, etc the priest and church is in their attitudes toward homosexuality. They “couple” is trying to start a revolution against the priest, local parish, and diocese for preaching the doctrine of the church when it involves homosexuality.
I seriously considered going to the masses tomorrow and removing the fliers, but I don’t want to land myself in legal trouble. I also thought about just following behind them and praying a rosary. How should this be handled. The priest is absolutely distraught.

So they would like the Church to stop being Catholic.

Not going to happen.

I think the main thing that you should do is reassure your priest. Tell him you’re on his side, and will forever be on his side. If I were in his situation, I would be terrified that I’d be alone and outnumbered in this debate.

Whose property is the parking lot? If it belongs to the parish then you’re in good shape.

Advise the priest to immediately post a sign that says “No trespassing, soliciting or littering”. Placing the flyers probably counts as a solicitation. If not, it might still count as littering. If they don’t have permission to be on the property, it’s trespassing.

As far as I know, the flyers no longer belong to the distributor once they are placed. So you can go right along behind the guy and pick them up.

Father might also consider getting a restraining order against these dudes. Then they can be arrested for coming on the grounds or getting within a certain yardage.

I am not a lawyer and nothing I say can or may be construed as legal advice.

Sounds good to me. Do whatever you can to stop these guys. They are trying to force their “morality” on the church. Kind of reminds me of a certain preacher we have here in Topeka.
