Holla have I committed a mortal sin I have being the video game Grand Theft Auto and I play only for fun I don’t play the game to kill inoccent people or I do inappropriate things in it but you can steal cars or rob stores but I only steal cars on the game but don’t kill the people but I kill online players but I am worried I have committed a mortal sin

The game is really entertaining. Think in terms of the sin of “sloth” if you are wasting to much time on it. The content of the game is mostly immoral so if you know that eventually you will get tiered of being exposed to immorality.

I only play for like a hour or like 30 minutes then I get off and I don’t do it to kill innocent people but I steal cars or I kill online players

We have to be careful what we let ourselves be entertained by. Whether in books, movies or video games.

Have I played all of he grand theft auto games? Yes. Do I think I’d be happy knowing Jesus, my guardian angel and the blessed mother were watching we play? No.

I don’t think it’s mortally sinful because I can’t come up with a strong enough argument as to why it would be. It’s still sinful entertainment because it’s you in a fantasy world being entertained by sinful things and getting to do things you probably wouldn’t do in real life.

If lust in our hearts is the same as adultery as Jesus said , then can playing out a fantasy of running people over with a car in a video game not be sinful also?

Personally, I’m torn as to whether folks should be playing Grand Theft Auto. I’ve played it once, and it was fun. But I’m just wondering about the premise.

But regardless of that, you didn’t commit a mortal sin by playing it. It’s not serious enough to be a mortal sin.

I only play the game for fun like I do in Call of duty ww2 I don’t play it cause I want to kill people or look for inappropriate things to do I p,at to race, drive fight with online players or skydive and I also play fortnite which thankfully isn’t gory

If you aren’t entertained by the seedy parts of he game and you can detach yourself from those parts, I don’t have a huge issue with it. It’s like watching a movie but having to fast forward through scenes. It’s allowable haha

So going into the games many strip clubs and getting half naked lap dances in the game wouldn’t be sinful? Hmmmmm

Omg I forgot to say that I sometimes I fight bad people on the game who are gang members who attack me I kill them or run away is that part sinful like getting into a virtual gang deathmatch

I think if you are feeling incredibly guilty about the game, pick a different one. If you are feeling intense scrupulousity, to the point you think you are sinning mortally, it might just be easier to find a game where you don’t feel that way!

I have found that as my relationship with Jesus deepens, my willingness to watch crappy stuff diminishes. That isn’t to say that I never watch shows that have, say, sexual content or violence… but I am way less tolerant than I was before.

So, instead of worrying if WE think it is a sin, ask God. As your faith life grows, your abilty and willingness to listen to him will grow too.

If you are playing a game and you are the person controlling the character and your character is getting a lap dance, and you can choose to not get one or get one, is it sinful? Can you chose how the character will act in your book?

I don’t know I think if a second persons controlling you could block your eyes or look away like I do when I see something inapprpriate it’s a mortal sin if you keep on looking

I’m not saying it’s a mortal sin. I think it was St Alphonsus Ligouri who talked about being careful with what we are entertained by. He loved music and so whenever he went to the opera, he would face the wall, to enjoy the music but to not have to see scantily clad women.

Intrinsically, no, but I would argue in practice it would generally be sinful to some extent: mortal if it is a known/suspected near occasion to lust, but probably still at least venial if it’s done for no good reason even if there’s no risk of sin.

If it is something that will lead one to sin, it will be sinful. And if it’s something that is done for no good reason (which I’d say it is in the context of an open-world video game), I’d say there is still sin in needless exposure to immodest images, and honestly with impurity there is very often the risk of sin there.

No, it’s a game, it’s pixels on a screen.

Why do you seem to think a video game is real life?

You could create a recreation of the Vatican and put a pixelated Pope in there, and go in and kill him. And guess what? That wouldn’t even be venially sinful.

If men struggle with lust and play out lust filled scenes in a video game, is it an occasion of sin?
