My husband & I went to see Guadalupe - La Pelicula on Friday. It is a good movie and it has English (and Spanish) subtitles.

Here is the website
with trailers http://www.guadalupelapelicula.com/

The movie has 2 parallel stories: In the present time it is the story of 2 archeologists that travel from Spain to Mexico to learn more about Our Lady of Guadalupe (story is in Spanish). The other story is the story of the apparitions 5 centuries ago (mostly in Nahuatl w/ Spanish & English subtitles)

The story of the apparitions was great. The girl that played Our Lady did a great job. No easy job portraying the most beloved woman in Mexico!! Very innocent and natural, speaking Nahuatl - I would go
see the movie again just to see her again - The actor that played Juan Diego did a great job also.

The present day story about the archeologists, had a very simple storyline. I think it was more a “medium” for the writers to explain to the viewers the scientific studies done to the tilma of Guadalupe and the traditions and love of the Mexican people for our Morenita.

I do not remember the rating, I think it was PG. The only 2 things that were mentioned that small children may have questions is they mentioned human sacrifice (twice - but did not go into details or
showed anything, it was a question posed by the archeologists) and they also mentioned pregnant women committing suicide (also, it was just a question by the archeologist) these 2 questions were more to convey the situation that the Aztecs where living in before the apparitions.

It was done with a lot of love and respect towards Our Lady and the devotion that people in Mexico have for her. It seems like a good teaching tool for people that are unfamiliar with these events. It made me want to go back to the Basilica.

I hope lots of people go see it to learn about Guadalupe and to support these types of movies.

Its not showing in all cities in the US, but we were lucky to have it in our area.

Can’t wait to see it!
My own little Guadalupano just turned 2 yesterday–we owe Our Lady so much!!

Glad to hear that someone else has seen the movie. I commented on the other Guadalupe thread and no one else responded. It is playing at quite a few "select" theaters in the San Francisco/San Jose area besides Sacramento.......and California is a "blue" state.
I plan to see it again for three reasons. I'll be visiting the basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico next spring. I'm trying to learn Spanish so it is good practice. And thirdly, my husband hasn't seen it yet.....and he shares my enthusiasm for the story of the miracle.
I hope more Catholics support this movie. I liked it a lot better than the Terese movie which I saw last year.

I hope it will be in our area at some time…it sounds like a great movie and I definately would like to see it.
