Dear CA apologists -

First, please accept my thanks for all that you do. As a newly baptized catholic, discovering CA has been a great blessing to me in my walk.

The instructors in my RCIA classes spoke at some length about guardian angels. Their discussions left me with the impression that feeling and believing that one has such a personal representative in heaven is quite common among catholics. This has produced some concern in me, particularly now that I’m “out on my own,” so to speak, because I’ve never sensed such a presence.

Is the concept of a guardian angel–on a personal level–common among catholics? In addition to offering the question to God in prayer, might you have any suggestions as to how I might become more sensitive to the presence of such an angel in my own life?

Many thanks,
Allen Rickel

We all have Guardian Angels to guard and protect us. “From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by [angels’] watchful care and intercession. ‘Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.’ Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 336)

Here is the *Prayer to One’s Guardian Angel * from the Handbook of Prayers: “Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day (or night) be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen”
