Do you have a relationship with yours? I’m not sure “relationship” is the right word, but do you speak to your guardian angel? How often do you think of your Guardian Angel? Do you feel your Guardian Angel’s presence in your life?

I’ve always had trouble believing I have an angel devoted to me. How can I start to change this?

Angels are servants of God. I always thank God for my guardian angel especially when I experience the incidences where my angel has protected me.

Yes, I’ve named him Buzz (sure hope when I meet him, he’s not a she), I often pray to him asking him to banish whatever devil is bothering me at the time. I think of him fairly often insofar as I am single and I think of him as a friend and a constant companion so yes I feel the presence of a guardian angel in my life.

As to your question, how can you start to change, I suggest simply believe and move on to other important things. Remember, Christ said, “blessed are those who have not seen, and believe.” He said believe, not prove…

As with God, I ignored my Guardian Angel for a few decades. I now go to Mass daily, where possible, pray in the Sanctury, do Adoration. I got, and still get this impression that my Guardian Angel is careering ecstatically around the Cathedral with everyone else’s Angel, and part of the choir of Angels during Mass. I asked his name in prayer once, in mass. I got the response Veronica. Which was most likely an Angelic kick up the backside to learn the Way of The Cross and Christ’s bitter Passion. Veronica’s Veil being part of The Way of The Cross. In Mass I list or pray offerings for my Angel to present to the alter with those of others. As who I am now, and what I do is in a large part to my Guardian Angel’s persistence and devotion to God to bring all souls alloted to him, through the ages, into the Mysteries of Christ.

I pray the St Michael 9 prayers, each is to a different group of Angels. At the end of the 9 prayers, 4 Our Fathers are said, one each for the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael and one to our Guardian Angel.

Glad to hear someone else call their angel guardian by a pet name. There are oodles of threads around here that say it’s forbidden, but my mother loved St. Anthony, so when I talk to him aloud or in my heart, I sometimes call him Tony. 😃

But I digress.

Yes, I have a very close relationship with my angel. He/She/whatever has always protected me from danger, possible bad associations, situations, helped me to find things, been with me when I was frightened, and, in my opinion, put useful ideas into my head when my mind is not cluttered by the problems of this life, When I am at rest, at peace in my heart, and thoughtful, sometimes an answer will come to me, or a pious thought will occur to me. That can only come from my guardian angel and the Holy Spirit. It’s certainly not wholly of myself. I imagine they are quite sad when we sin.

I love my guardian angel, and thank God daily for such a dear and faithful friend.

Just pray the guardian angel prayer, mean it, and see what happens.
Your angel is waiting for you to stop and listen.
Start with "My dear guardian angel…

God bless you.

One way you can start is every evening before you go to bed, say the simple phrase:
“Thank you, guardian angel, for watching over me today. Please watch over me tomorrow.”

I feel my guardian angel’s presence in my life often. Sometimes a few times a day, sometimes a few days between feeling that presence. When I DO feel that presence, usually when something that could have gone badly went well, or something bad was avoided (hey, I commute I-5 every day), that’s when I will say a quick “thanks yet again, dear guardian angel”.

That “understanding” has grown over the years.

Hope that helps.

Blessings,
Stephie

Try to get your hands on the book Heavenly Army of Angels by Bob and Penny Lord. I feel my angel played a very big role in my conversion and I wanted more information on angels but from a good, Catholic source. Finding this book was a hint I was right about the role they played and reading it totally confirmed it. The authors do a beautiful describing angels and the roles they played in the lives of Mary, the saints and other holy men and women. I also read a wonderful article by Patti Mansfield about how the angels worked over a weekend. She asked the guardian angels of her children to watch over them and each had a notable spiritual experience they shared when she returned. Patti herself was speaking at a conference and privately prayed to the angel of each of the attendees. After her talk, 2 different people told her they could see an angel on either side of her during her talk. With these things in mind I talk to my angel freely and also to others’ angels. I’ve found it helpful if I’m anticipating conflict or difficulty with someone with the understanding that the angel’s priority is the salvation of that soul.

I ask my angel to protect me and my family and home. I also ask my angel to guide me and deliver messages to other people. They will do it, too, and not just for Padre Pio who frequently asked his angel to deliver messages.

One late night, I suddenly felt like I should check on my mom. I thought for sure she would be asleep, but I still felt the need to check on her. I crept towards her room and quietly peeked in, not wanting to wake her. She was siting up, wide awake and said, “I just asked my angel to go get you.” Mom needed something, but it’s been so many years now I can’t remember what it was. She had difficulty walking and didn’t want to get out of bed, so she told her angel to get me. Well, it worked!

Years later, I had the chance to reciprocate. Mom and I were in the adoration chapel at church. We had planned on going to see a play afterwards. Mom was really looking forward to seeing the play. As we were sitting before the blessed sacrament, about 6:30 pm in the winter, I started thinking how much I didn’t want to go to the play. It was dark and it was too hard for me to see at night to drive. I was having trouble with my eyes at that time but I didn’t want her to know how bad my eyes had become because my mom was a huge worry-wart. I deliberately never told her about my health problems because she would obsess over it. So I thought “How can I get out of going to the play without alerting my mother as to the reason why?” So I sat there and silently prayed to my angel.

I said, “Angel, please tell my mom that we shouldn’t go to the play tonight.” Immediately as I was finishing that thought, I glanced at her and she started fishing through her purse and pulled out a pen and paper and wrote on it. I was thinking, “No, it can’t be!” She then handed me the note, which read, “I don’t think we should go to the play.” I nodded my head in affirmation.

We finished our hour of adoration and when we left I asked her why she suddenly didn’t want to go to the play. She replied, “It’s getting dark out and it’s too hard to see.” I never told her the whole story. 😃

Hi Denise,

Yes, I definitely have a relationship with my Guardian Angel.

I have been helped and protected many times. 🙂

Here is a link to the Catholic Online website, where there are many Guardian Angel prayers:

I’ve always thought we should not name our guardian angels. Naming something or someone implies you have the authority to actually do so. I named my children since God gave me authority over them as their father, along with their mother. I’ve named pets and have authority over them as their owner. I have no such authority over my guardian angel. Also, I don’t think Angels are properly either male or female.

Do you feel your Guardian Angel’s presence in your life?
More so in the lives of my children. There have been times where my only explanation for them not being seriously injured is their guardian angel prevented them from it. I know it seems kind of cliche but i’m talking something that defied physics as far as I am concerned.

I can think of one instance in my own life that was probably my guardian angle trying to help me, I wish I would have listened.

Yes, I have a relationship with my guardian angel. It seems to have developed over the last few years, as I was always interested in angels and studied about the choirs and the various ways they serve the Lord.

Peter Kreeft’s book “Angels and Demons” helped a lot, and also “Theology for Beginners” by F. Sheed.

When I get in my car I call upon my guardian angel ! 🙂

Before reading at Sunday or weekday Mass I ask that all the guardian angels (the priest, and all the congregation) go to Padre Pio and ask him to intercede that this Mass give great glory to God. I also ask that my reading touches the hearts of all there, with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Angels have no gender, I just call my guardian “angel of God”.

By God’s grace I have a strong devotion to the guardian angels – my own of course, but also the angels all around me.

I know angels have no physical form, but even as I’m sitting here, I’m aware of their presence in and over my neighbors’ homes – massive, brilliant, fierce beings protecting and leading the occupants within these homes. I get that same image as I drive to work, angels with every car, and in every home, and in every business.

And in my classroom, knowing that these powerful warrior angels are hovering over each and every child in my care makes me aware of the incredible responsibility I have as a teacher – and my accountability before God for the work I do!

At my house, we are always thanking our guardian angels for their help in remembering things or finding things or having a sudden inspiration. We ask them to bring messages to each other and help us with our relationships with others.

When I think of it, I take a moment to honor the guardian angels near me and give thanks to God for them.

If you want a closer relationship with your guardian angel, ask Our Lord for that grace. It has been an incredible blessing to me and my son.

And I just call my guardian angel “Dear Angel.” ❤️

Thanks for the suggestion.

My only interaction with the Angels is when I pray to St. Michael or pray the Guardian Angel prayer. I usually focus on Jesus.

That’s what I also thought. Angels are not pets or children to be named. In fact it’s the other way around.

Of course not. I think the prohibition stems from ASKING their name, as the demons love to insert themselves into our lives.
But anyway, it’s not something to dwell on. It doesn’t matter. They assigned to each of us specifically and it’snot like they will lose track of us, or us of them. 😉

I know my guardian angel is always with me. I have experienced their protection on many occasions in my life. I pray my guardian angel prayer daily.

Yes, I do pray to them and apologize to them when I do something stupid/sinful. Always thought it would be kind of a bummer for them looking out for me and I respond by taking the wrong path. I envision them doing the ‘face palm’ quite a bit while watching over me. I do thank them every day for doing the job God has assigned them with respect to me.

How often do you think of your Guardian Angel?

Several times a day, at least.

Do you feel your Guardian Angel’s presence in your life?

No.

Thank you all for your responses!

Funny thing happened last night…

After I posted this thread, I went on Facebook and there was a quote from St Padre Pio posted by one of the Catholic pages I follow:

Do not forget your Guardian Angel who is always with you and never leaves you, no matter what wrong you might do.
