i am having a hard time deciding who will be the guardians for our daughter. we know very few Catholic families who actually practice their faith and uphold Church teachings. More than half of my family (I have 8 living brothers and sisters) is not Catholic, those who are, don’t believe in most anything the Church teaches. My husband is not Catholic, and his sister is the only Christian (who goes to a non-denominational Christian church). The few couples we know that are Catholic and uphold Church teaches, we do not know well enough to name as guardians.

I’m at my wits’ end because we need to get a will made, but I don’t know what to do! Any suggestions are helpful.

I would contact the parish director at your church and ask him or her if they know good candidates in your parish. You may be able to meet some good and interesting people to be your daughter’s guardians.

thanks, i will ask a lawyer friend what the laws of montana are. 🙂

there is a difference between the person who is the legal guardian, make legal and financial decisions for your child, decides custody etc and the person who oversees their spiritual health when you can’t, who should be the godparent. Yes it would be prudent to choose someone who can do both, or people who can work together for the best interests of your child, but in any case you can only suggest you cannot dictate from the grave.
