A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico.

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

My comment - If thats not a sign to close the borders… I don’t know what is.

This is sad. I suppose this will justify US helicopters increasing their patrols into Mexican airspace in order to prevent a recurrance. Yes, I’ve seen them and do not think they should be there any more than the armed drugrunners and smugglers of human beings belong on this side.

Things haven’t changed much since the days of Pancho Villa. The de jure government of Mexico seems unable, or unwilling, to maintain order. Then when their gangs start a de facto war they get upset if we respond.

Ive heard that these same Guardsmen were not armed and were only there to monitor the crossings. Prez Fox needs the $US and will not stop any crossing of the borders. Monies being sent back to Mexico is second only to tourism there. So, crossing the borders is big business in Mexico. Unfortunately, 125,000 lbs of drugs were conficated last year along the border of Mexico and Arizona. Phoenix seems to be the favored city of choice in the southwest by the illegals. Why this is so I dont know but Phoenix seems to be a focal point no the less. No with drug smuggling at an all time high at the borders it looks like we may have a full scale border war in the near future. Presedente Fox calls any talk of a wall comperable to the Berlin wall. Senior Fox hasnt read his history very well. The Berlin wall was there to keep people IN, our wall (if it ever gets built) will be for keeping people OUT.

So, why are we in Iraq?

StMark,

Before you defame the President of Mexico, get his name right. Felipe Calderón has been president since December 1.

While remittances from emmigrants is a major source of funds for Mexico, I suspect that drug money is almost as plentiful, and it comes back faster.

According to TV news, there were two separate incidents. No shots were exchanged in one and the information about the other was murky.

Heck, the Mexican government even produces a pamplet telling their citizens how to get across the American border! (saw it in American Legion magazine). :banghead:

Yea… too bad the Mexican government don’t sepnd has much effort to actually try to fix the problems that keep ppl from comming over here illegally.

Guess that would be asking too much.

Wow, what a subversive document. 😉

The nature of Supply and Demand is two-fold. If the supply of needed labor were to dry up with no answer for our labor needs, what would that mean for us?

I found this story on the same page. Only 4 armed men from the Mexican side of the border. NG troops were armed. NG troops withdrew, were not over-run. No shots fired. No injuries. This doesn’t even count as a confrontation, not in the circles I travel. jt
Hello??? ONLY 4 armed men…so that is ok with you? It is better than say…3…5…6? the point being there should be NO armed men coming in from across the border!!! Of course, there were no shots fired…from the NG because they are UNARMED!!! It may not account for confrontation…but do we really want men coming in from across the border…ILEGALLY?! Good grief!!

The armed confrontation occurred around 11 p.m. Wednesday near Sasabe , about a quarter-mile north of the border.** A team of four or five Guard troops, armed with M-16s , were watching for border crossers** at an observation post when they spotted four men carrying what appeared to be rifles, Martinez said.

Armed individuals crossing remote areas of the border typically are smuggling drugs, Martinez said, though** it’s unknown who the gunmen were in this incident**. It’s also uncertain whether the men were scouting the observation post, testing National Guard response, or merely stumbled upon the troops.
Our troops were indeed armed to protect themselves.

From appearances it does seem that the men they saw were armed though our men were not sure.

We don’t know for sure who these men were. Sheesh, they could have been a part of a certain ARMED vigilante group for all we know.
