Hi, Please help me to work through the vice of lust. I had a dream a month or so ago and the memory stayed with me, it was very clear that I would last not even a day in heaven unless I can get my mind off looking for a sexual partner. Now to be clear, This isn’t about any action of sin. It is the heart that betrays me and this dream has informed me that I need to change my heart on this, if I am to get to heaven.

The questions I have, from my heart which is what needs convincing is this.

The desire and act of sexual intamacy is not a sin, within a marriage and for the purposes of having children and a conjugal relationship. As we don’t live in a world of arranged marriages, we are left to compete for a desired partner and this leaves single men and woman with an eye out for a partner the whole time they are single and wishing for these good and natural things. We must either decide to not compete and accept a chaste life or be under the power of lust with any potential husband/wife. Again this is not thinking or acting out on the lust. It is this desire of the heart which can cause a person to be open to attracion. My dream is clear that the desire is sufficient in heaven to cause scandal and expulsion. I feel my attraction to others is part of my identity, can I remove part of myself as St Paul declares "it is better for you to enter heaven wounded than not at all?

I already am confident of the answer, which is yes. I want to know how really?

I am sorry but I do not comprehend what you are asking.

Are you asking if we will have sexual desire in heaven? The answer to that is no. Scripture tells us that there will be no marriage nor getting married in heaven. We will be completely full of joy, there will be no room for sexual (or any other sort) of longing in heaven.

On the other hand, is the question “is sexual desire a sin?”. The answer is no. Sexual desire is natural and it is good. Lust is sinful, it is a disordered, perversion of sexual desire.
