hi everyone.

my guide dog macy, who is only 3.5 years old, is likely to have developed cancer. She had a biopsy today and we are just waiting for the official results. but the vet is pretty sure of it.

this is just simply beyond my comprehension. I can understand why the lord might take a human early to be with him in eternal life. but animals don’t have eternal life, unless God will perhaps re-make or re-create them when he make the new heaven or new earth, but we don’t know that for sure.

I just can’t find an explanation why this is happening. If this is the only life she has, then why would she be taken from it so soon? is this somehow my fault? maybe I have too many sins? or maybe I was too lazy with my prayers?

I don’t really know what the lord wants me to learn from all of this. I am sure there is a reason but I just can’t understand anything right now.

Any words of wisdom? and could you please pray for her? I do trust that the lord knows best, but it’s still really hard. and I guess there is still some hope, we are not completely sure yet and maybe there is still something that can be done, I really have no idea anymore.

Animals are created by God to fulfill their appropriate purpose. When they die, they return to him. This is the way of things and it’s no one’s fault. I’m sure God can recall any beloved animal. He knows them all.

Perhaps He wants to show you how fleeting and precious life is?

There was an article one time about a young boy who had an idea as to why dogs die sooner than people. he said it’s because it takes them a shorter time to show us how to love. Very touching.

Angel, I’m so sorry to hear that your service dog is ill.

There is nothing supernatural here, sickness and death are natural phenomenon in our fallen world. God isn’t making her sick or taking her away. She is simply sick because cancer happens.

No sweet angel. It is not anything you’ve done at all.

God did not make your animal sick for you to learn a lesson.

However, we do often learn lessons through the sad events of our lives as well as the happy events.

Trust in God to comfort you through this time of sorrow. Don’t believe he has done this to you, he hasn’t.
Any words of wisdom?
Losing a beloved pet is always difficult. And a service animal probably moreso because of their special role in your life.

No words of wisdom. I’ve had many pets over the years and it doesn’t get easier as you get older. But you’ve given her a nice life with you and you should take comfort in that.

it’s just hard because she is so young. only 3.5 years old. the truth is, I was struggling with my prayer life a log, I would come home tired from work and be busy doing other things then pray before going to bed which mostly resulted in me falling asleep halfway through. I guess I was kind of getting lukewarm or something. I can’t help but feel like this is some sort of wake-up call and that she is suffering because I wasn’t doing what I was supposed to.

I know it’s not the lord’s fault, I am not blaming God. I am just trying to put my trust in him, maybe the results will turn out different, or there will be some treatment available or God might work a miracle. I really have no idea at this point

She maybe able to be treated? (I haven’t read all the thread)

Keep positive, prayers and thoughts with you and Macy ❤️

depending on the results, if it is cancer, what type, how far it has progressed EtC… the vet said removing surgically could be difficult due to the location but radiation or chemotherapy could be possibilities, if she responds well to it

also need your (name removed by moderator)ut on something @1ke I do wish to pursue treatment if it is available and there is a reasonable outcome. however, vets do charge quite outrageous prices. I personally feel it’s still justified though because I can afford it and I still have a job right now and there is nothing else relaly urgent that would take precedence. I certainly am willing to sacrifice my own wants and goals for th time being. Would this still be considered inordinate simply because it could be fairly expensive? I personally don’t think it would be a sin but you know how I am with these things

This is a matter if prudential judgment. It’s not a sin to seek treatment. Listen to the vet though if he really doesn’t think there is a good prognosis, don’t go that route. If he does, it’s worth a try.

i hope the diagnosis is not true.
a friend’s dog was diagnosed with cancer. she put her on a special diet.
fed her fresh meat and chicken. the
dog is still alive, so it was a misdiagnosis.
two years have passed. the vet had said the dog only had weeks.
i don’t want to give false hope.
it is so hard when a dog gets sick.
prayers offered for your guide dog’s health.

As regards to paying for treatment, does the organisation that provided you with the service dog not pay for vet bills?
I believe guide dogs trained here in the UK are still under the providers care with regards to illness.

they do’t everywhere, they have been nice enough to contribute for a few of her tests but i doubt they will pay if they personally feel like there is no point.

i am trying to have hope. ihad a friend whose guide dog was diagnosed with lymphoma when he turned 4 years old. the vet told her that he oly had about a 10% survival rate, she went ahead with treat emnt anyways because she felt he was young enough that she wanted to give him a chance. 4 years later, he is now 8 and cancer-free and even continuing his job as her guide dog. i am not sying my situation will be the same, but sometimes miracles happen or vets can be wrong with their initial judgment

Yes, I would agree that if the vet informs them of what the best treatment would be for your dog they will act on the vets advice. If they are not satisfied with the vets advice they may ask for a second opinion, as they are responsible for the well being of the dog, as much as you are.

Miracles do sometimes happen, I will keep Macy in my thoughts and prayers.

Do keep us up to date. 🐕❤️
