I was wondering if there is some sort of guidebook out there with just a list of the Bible references to the Psalms and readings for the Liturgy of the Hours / Divine Office and maybe the full text of the non-biblical parts so that people could use their own Bibles.

Of course, it would be for individual private devotions and not the official Liturgy (no need to go there since it is thoroughly covered in other threads).

Does such an animal exist?

I don’t know of one, but you could get the info from the Universalis website – or maybe just follow Universalis for the readings.

The guidebook would literally be the Breviary itself. It’s it’s own guide. The parts for each day are found in the Psalter, or the Propers or Commons and you just follow along, there’s nothing that says which days follow what Psalms/readings exactly.

My first introduction to the Liturgy of the Hours was with Christian Prayer, the single volume version. In the back of the book, you will find the scriptural readings for the Office of Readings. Year I is the odd years and Year II are those years, like 2012, which end with an even number. What the single volume version lacks is the non-Biblical readings for the Office of Readings. That’s where I substituted my own reading of spiritual classics like The Interior Castle and Story of a Soul. I found it easy to remember what I read by simply reading a chapter a day (or a couple of pages) as part of the LOTH then when I would read a book in one sitting.

?
I have a small pocket size translation of the psalms from early 20th c. confraternity version I think, which also has the OT and Gospel canticles, intro to the hours, night prayer etc. and lists the psalms for each day and each hour (in the old manner of counting the hours) I used if for years before I found Shorter Christian Prayer, which we use as Oblates, and before I received the 4 vol. as a gift.

I still prefer that translation of the psalms over all others, and carry that book when I travel sometimes.
