Guilt over praing in latin

I just want to note I was not criticizing. I just do not think it will help personally, but at the same time I AM interested in learning how to pray Latin.

The simple fact that a lot of the saints prayed in that language, makes it even more appealing.

Why would a Catholic criticize another Catholic for using Latin? The Holy Fathers mother tongue isn’t Latin. And you wont criticize him.
 
The point is that he did ask for people’s opinions and we are giving our opinions.

Yeah, Latin is all that and a bag of chips AND it is the language of the Church.

However if one day, I just don’t feel up to doing the compline in Latin, then I’ll pray in English.

This is how one avoids being scrupulous.

That is the good thing about knowing two different languages lol. I am a big fan of languages. I used to be able to pray the Rosary in Spanish. For now I want to learn the Latin, but eventually I want to learn how to in Hebrew or Arabic. 😃

well i suppose just pray in english!!..dont worry too much!!

Seriously…anyone? I myself would like to be able to hear it…trying to follow along singing during the benediction in Latin is not helping me learn it…it just sounds like goobly guk…

Does anyone have a good link for hearing the pronunciation of Latin?

(Paxvobis finally brought me over to the dark side:D Although I don’t want to use Latin all the time)

No, Latin is the official language of the church… funny how so many people hate it…Im scrupulous and can hold on to things my brain suggests and no I dont think Im being pretentions and even when I ask for opinions I know Absoloutley may not be the cause so No absoloutley not. the only problem is MY CONSCIENCE IS DAMAGED WITH SCRUPULOSITY? things are different for us 😦 there are some feelings we must ignore whether we feel it is from our conscience or not. 😦 sigh Its a terrible disease of the conscience.

Praying the Rosary in Latin is pretty much the only way I pray it, unless I am praying with someone else that doesn’t want to. The Rosary just flows in Latin~
So, if you are wrong, so am I. 🙂

should I discontinue or just continue past it I dont understand this emotion Its as if I cannot prefer the latin anymore AM I GOING INSANE or is this possibly demonic in origin, or mabey coincidental or just my mind… I was tired at the time?

I think maybe this is a scruple 🙂 I mean I’m not saying God couldn’t tell someone to stop praying in Latin, if they were doing it out or pride, etc… but if you were just praying in Latin out of devotion - doesn’t seem wrong… Latin itself is not wrong at all. And nothing wrong with the EF either don’t worry. 🙂

There is nothing wrong about praying in Latin. If you felt an inclination to pray in Greek, there would be nothing wrong about that. In fact, Latin was the official language of the Catholic Church [Roman Rite] until the mid 1960’s, when the authorities decided to introduce the Mass in ‘the vernacular’ [the customary language in each country]. At that point, in English speaking countries, English was accepted to officiate the Holy Mass. But, if you go to Mexico, the Mass is celebrated in Spanish. Nothing wrong with that, either.

Sometimes it is good to pray in your native tongue. Sometimes it is good to pray in a sacred language. Other times it might be good to pray in a foreign tongue.

Latin is a language of the Church. It is very dear to the heart of Mary.

Recently, I had taken the time to memorize the first line of the Angelic Salutation in Aramaic. It is quite lovely.

Think of it like this. Every language learned is like looking at a magnificently painted portrait from a fresh angle. As your intellect grows you will learn greater depth because you have unselfishly expanded your capacity for undertanding.

Seek Mary in all ways. She takes all contrite prayer as a compliment.

She is a good mother.
 
I don’t see a problem with it. You are praying the Rosary, right? You know the prayers, what the words mean. Your intention is there. It would be the same if you were praying in another language.
