Today a while ago, as i was watching a movie on t.v., i happened to hear a very sensual dialogue from one of the characters in it, hearing which excited some weird sensual feelings in me 😦 i discontinued soon after and i know it was inadvertently heard, but still feel a bit guilty and heavy at heart, and feel as if i have been stained by it… I can’t understand whether i actually sinned and hurt God or was it just a temptation to sin, because i have not been dwelling on that dialogue, but whenever i recall that incident to my mind, or whenever it pops up in my mind i feel that i am sinning! Should i go ahead and confess it before i receive Communion on the Feast, the day after??? Please help! confused

I believe no sin was committed on your part. Our body definitely would react to such a sensual dialogue but without your will yielding to such a pleasure doesn’t constitute a sin.

There are factors that defines the commission of sin. I hope some can provide them completely. What i remember are these two.
  1. You have the knowledge of the sinfulness of the act
  2. You consented willfully.

Before communion say the act and contriction and go to communion.
When possible, confess.
But that does not seem anyhting special. If I were to confess each time I hear or see something erotic, I would never leave Church…

There’s a fine line between impure thoughts and temptations in that same vein. Here it seems to be temptation since you didn’t dwell on it and didn’t deliberately bring the memories to mind. I know, telling the difference can be very confusing.

You can’t normally prevent such thoughts from actually popping up in your head (nor can you even prevent at least some kind of reaction acknowledging the attractiveness of an attractive member of the opposite sex or your own desire for sexual matters). You can, however, make the choice to accept or reject them. You can still feel dirty for being involved in an impure situation even against your will.

For a mortal sin you would need to make a decision, with full knowledge and consent, to entertain those thoughts with the goal of deriving sexual pleasure from tem.

But it’s a good idea to ask a priest, possibly in confession already, when you have doubts.

Thank you Fredms3, Aeden and Chevalier for clearing my doubts, & Pfaffenhoffen for the spiritual tip of saying the Act of contrition before Communion. Aeden you seem to have understood my dilemma… thanx 🙂 the chief reason for my confusion stems from the fact that in the past, i have at some instances derived sensual pleasure from what i heard and saw through media. For a considerable time have avoided similar situations to sin too… but when i got bombarded with this peice of filth, i was left in a state of confusion and guilt… Thank you all once again 🙂 God bless you all
