I caught a little bit of the Pope’s Mass at the detention center today. The choir was using a guitar! No organ in sight. I’m still not over the shock.

Yes, I’m being sarcastic. But I know there are a lot of purists here who will be truly outraged.

Now I know the whole world’s gone mad. 😛

I very much doubt it will result in folk leaving the faith…👍 At the last count i think we have 3/4 guitar players in our choir !👍 :tiphat: :tiphat: :tiphat:

Just as a side note: did you know that the first time “Silent Night” was sung at mass, it was accompanied by guitar? Hadn’t the mice gotten at the bellows of the organ, and didn’t it leak so badly that it couldn’t be used?

Matthew

Yes, also notice that in both cases (Mass at the detention center and the mice in the bellows) that there was no organ available either because it was outside a church or the organ was out of commission?

This gives no reason to have a garage band doing music for Holy Mass when a perfectly good organ is available or because well meaning but completely ignorant people removed or never installed an organ.

Garage band music is for garages and invokes garages.
Rock music is for rock concerts and invokes feelings of rock concerts.
Cocktail bar music is for cocktail bars and invokes the feelings of cocktail bars.
Pop music is for pop concerts and teenagers iPods and make you think of sitting at home watching VH1.
Church music is for Church and invokes the feeling of holiness, of mystery and of wonder.

We are humans and should understand that our senses and memories work together. We’re a bunch of Pavlov’s Dogs…we just need to accept it!

Does this mean I can’t have Church music on my iPod???

I doubt His Holiness planned every detail of the Mass himself.
