I know that I’m probabaly going to be flamed for this…but:

To all you Chicagoans on here, does anyone know where the old-style hootenany Mass is still being done?

Mind you, I’m 24. I also attend Tridentine Mass from time to time at St. Odillo’s in Berwyn or St. John Cantius. I also also grew up in a parish that had a real guitar Mass, with acoustic guitars, a flute, and violin and a dozen people singing every Sunday at 10:30 am. They played well, and chose good older songs (however, towards their end they relied on “Gather Us In” and Awesome God" a bit too much). Therefore, I enjoy everything.

I’m just curious if anything exists like this anymore in the area. That group at my parish was replaced by a “contemporary ensemble” that has an electric keyboard and people singing overly-soothing “contemporary” hyms that aren’t in the hymnal. I’ve noticed this at other parishes as well.

Kthnx :whacky:

Hey just wanted to let you know that YES, there is still a guitar mass going on in the Chicago land area. At st. Mary church in Griffith Indiana. We have had guitar mass since 1990. I lead the guitar mass now, I’m 20 years old, and yes it is old style. All acoustic guitars, bass, congrats, and tambourine. Definitely the real deal. We rock the place too, you should come visit 🙂
