I have done just that for the past several weeks, and, the faithful have sung. In fact one of the celebrants seemed pleased to not have to deal with the guitar. He found it rather refreshing.
See. That is what I am talking about. Different parishes have different needs. I am glad that works for you.

You also issued a challenge, which I have been doing for a few weeks now. 😃

Excellent. It* is *a good challenge. If something needs changed, then be willing to do it yourself, if you can. If not, then accept those who may well be doing the best they can. Music is only one small application of this. Whether people complain about their boss/job, yet never go up for a promotion, or about the government but do not vote, it is important to put one’s opinions into action or else back off the curmudgeony. ( I wish spell check had an option for, “I know it is not a word, but it should be”)

No, it is allowed to use guitars for mass especially for maSS FOR CHILDREN.

I have played the organ at numerous weddings and they use all kind of instruments; however. playing a record at mass is illegal. If they want that kind of music, have it at their reception,

I was Protestant before and guitars, keyboards, and drums are commonplace at many churches because they are not usually playing hymns, but, rather contemporary christian music or praise and worship songs.

That being said, we have a guitar and percussion at our monthly Frassati Holy Hours, and I enjoy that. I also enjoy the cantors and piano during Mass. My brother really dislikes the singing, but he also lacks rhythm!

Anyway, I am learning guitar so that I can lead worship at our parish’s new youth group and so I can travel to other churches, Catholic or not, and lead worship. But that’s me and I know it’s not for everyone. Oh, and BTW, our parish is staffed by Dominican Friars from the St. Joseph Province.
