Gun ownership in this day and age

I am certainly for more regulation of guns. Provided I get to be the final authority on who gets one.

Common sense.

He’s already said she’s against owning a firearm. That’s why I suggested he start by going to a range, maybe joining a team. She’ll eventually see that he’s having fun, safely and then she may decide to join him.

Many Americans who have successfully used their firearms to defend themselves and their loved ones belie this statement.

I don’t know where you live but my government already heavily regulates firearms.
 
Ah, but I’ll be the one deciding if the mass shooter gets a gun. No problem.

In Nazi Germany Hitler’s regime was the government, and he disarmed the public.

What does that mean? If someone is going to shoot you will only have a split second to decide if you will defend yourself or not. The Catholic Church supports self defense by use of lethal means.
 
I just personally would try to not kill the assailant.

This is why we’re supposed to stop shooting when the threat is neutralized. Then, after we secure the perp’s weapon, we’re supposed to call 911, then render first aid.

And many others have lost it or been injured while “accidentally” triggering it, or while using it to defend themselves. The most tragic part is that all too often children and guests pay the deadly consequences.
 
Yep.
One of the rules of self defense is that you don’t fire warning shots and you don’t shoot to wound. You aim at the center of mass and you fire until the threat is neutralized.
Most people who are shot don’t die. This includes violent home invaders. Some who are shot continue to attack, especially when they are high on drugs.

So you want a repeal of the second amendment? The US already has more guns in it than people. I would like to know how many of those gun deaths are from the good guy defending himself in self defense. You don’t break that down.

Guns are equilizers so that the elderly and smaller people don’t have to go up against larger attackers.

The answer to all that nonsense is TRAINING. Those who buy a gun should not just go to the range and plink at a target or two. They should attend classes in scenerio training. You will learn how to enter and clear a room, how to approach and use stairs, and stair landings, how to use your gun by yourself and with partners, and a lot of other challenging but fun stuff. Training is AWESOME. Do it!

I believe the main issue in the gun debate is what kind of gun we are talking about.
People who want a rifle for hunting or a hand gun for protection, I have no problem with.
When I was younger, I hunted deer and quail. Used a .270 Winchester and a 12-gauge shotgun.
What I have a problem with are folks who think they need an assault type weapon. These weapons are made specifically to kill people.
