We’ll defend home and family against all enemies, foreign and domestic. We"l defend those who feel helpless–the very old and the very young, the weak, even the pacifist and the craven.

Mine either. It struck me when I first read it, in high school. Has stayed with me ever since. Cautionary, it is.

So must make sure no authoritarian, totalitarian, mad for power for power’s sake ideologues, manage to get the boot in.

Will start by safeguarding the Constitutional safeguards. Assiduously.
You also first make sure that blind insistence on the right to the possession of deadly weapons doesn’t turn you into one of those same authoritarian, totalitarian, mad for power for power’s sake (and let’s be clear, guns are a form of power) ideologues yourself.

Your (personal) added “protection” is neither needed nor desired
Perhaps the bad guy will simply be repelled by tiresome moralizing, poor logic and repetitous hand wringing, then.

And, as has been already and patiently explained, the police rarely prevent violent crime. Unless they are already on scene when it happens. They’ll come along after, though, with the forensics team.

No. If a situation occurs where I can protect someone, it’s my positive duty to help. That’s a far cry from vigilantism or looking for trouble.

Yep. They’ll certainly take a report and investigate after the fact. Not faulting LEOs, I’m a big supporter. They simply can’t be every at once. They can’t be in every parking garage. They can’t be on every dark street. They can’t stake out every house in an area where home invasions have occurred.
No, they can’t be everywhere at once. This is exactly what the sheriff of a nearby metropolitan county said a couple of years ago when he announced a “shall issue” CCW policy. He’s a realist, living in the real world.

What I have a problem with is guns of any type that can fire off a massive number of bullets in seconds without reloading.
We need to remember the reason for the 2nd.

from the Federalist No. 46
…The highest number to which, according to the best computation, a standing army can be carried in any country, does not exceed one hundredth part of the whole number of souls; or one twenty-fifth part of the number able to bear arms. This proportion would not yield, in the United States, an army of more than twenty-five or thirty thousand men. To these would be opposed a militia amounting to near half a million of citizens with arms in their hands, officered by men chosen from among themselves, fighting for their common liberties,…
The kind of “christian” who does not follow the words of Jesus: “turn the other cheek!!”
sell your cloak and buy a sword

what cheek was He turning when He turned the tables over in the temple?
It could declare a “national emergency”, suspend all the civil liberties, declare martial law, and that would be THAT.
it would be too late for the ballot box in this situation, do you think they would let you vote? some claim trump won’t go in 2020 if he loses. what would one do?
And seeing as how I interact frequently with law enforcement officers, I have faith that very few of them would obey a government so despotic as to order the total disarming of the American people.
God bless America!
some sheriffs are balking at some minor changes now

If Trump loses in 2020, we’ll have a new president. It’s as simple as that. The man loves America.

Isn’t it wonderful that you use “quote-mining” to support whatever you want to?
explain it to me,

Jesus was clear, He provided for them on their first mission trip and they were on their own on the second including defending themselves.

What if it isn’t possible to live in peace?
We shall cross that bridge when we get there. But it is very unlikely that he can convince the military and the judicial branch (police included) to go against the population.
he has the Russians in his corner

Ugh… it’s a Block. Such an inelegant weapon. I inherited the bigger brother G17, and bought the much bigger brother the G17L as non-concealed carry option. My preference is for 1911 style firearms, but was hard to turn down 17+1 capacity in a 6" barreled 9mm. I still don’t carry a Block as a daily carry though… too bulky, and I don’t like the “safe action” compared to an external safety. If I could find a good Kydex holster for the G17L, I’d use it as a “field” carry weapon for places not terribly likely to need a 10mm or better for critter issues. For 'yote packs, I’d take the higher capacity over the reduced kill capability per shot. For cougars, I’d go the opposite way.

Prayerrider - I don’t like Buffalo Bore. I bought a few boxes of their .45ACP +P loads, both Barnes and their p***-poor JHP (pretty bad bullet performance) loads. Darned near beat a Kimber alloy frame full-size 1911 to death. There was a period of time too when they loaded +P and even +P+ [whatever that means in terms of pressure generation] 9mm loads into brass head stamped 9mm; don’t put that in your High-Point. I think I’ll stick to Federal/Speer, Barnes, Cor-Bon, or Black Hills for my personal defensive ammo needs.

With regard to carrying firearms in the workplace. Right now, I can think of four people who died this week, who probably would have really, really, really wanted a firearm in reach before they were killed at the job. I can’t give details as to how they died, but suffice it to say that the problem likely could have been ended by an employee with a firearm who was familiar with firearms.

I don’t worry about the government… have you seen our recent efforts? I worry about the Mad Max style wandering bands of thugs that turn parts of cities into veritable war zones. Chicago comes to mind.

Must be nice to have a job where members of the criminal milieu don’t threaten to kill you, your co-workers, etc. Perhaps, in such a situation, one could defend oneself by swatting at the criminal with a rosary like the priests in the most recent South Park video game do to the player character?

“Sell your cloak and buy a sword” indeed - but straight afterwards when they told him they had two swords already, His exact words were “it is enough”. Now whether He meant “two swords are enough for 12” or even , possibly “enough of this ridiculous talk of weapons”, the verse certainly doesn’t appear to support any sort of general right for everyone to have a weapon.

How frequently does that happen?
Far too often.
Yes, and that invalidates the argument that civilians need military type weapons to protect against the government.
You forgot the second part, which is that tyrannical governments have to use special, sociopathic troops to suppress the populace. Those forces are never anywhere near the size of the regular armies.

Yep, the Soviet NKVD, the German Gestapo, the Imperial Japanese Kempeitai and even the British ‘Black and Tans’ were all substantially smaller than their official military counterparts. And less well armed.

And we can count on YOU to be there??? What do you propose, vigilantism?
if Prayerrider is the one being attacked, by definition, prayerrider is there.
That is why it is called ‘self defense’

The Police will certainly come AFTER the attack, but that would do prayerrider any good.
