Gun ownership in this day and age

Protestant bibles say “thou shall not murder”, Catholic Bibles say “thou shall not kill”. Which am I to accept?

I am literally am. Church teachings are based on what scriptures says, not what pro-gun violence activists say.

Waco and Ruby Ridge we’re both caused by gun nuts violating federal gun laws. McVeigh thought the federal government was going to take everyone’s guns away.

The Turner Diaries’ plot is literally about a white nationalist blowing up a federal building because he was afraid that the government was going to take his guns away from him. That’s literally the plot of the book.

The Oklahoma City bombing was literally all about guns.

Should I just pretend like the Bible doesn’t say what it literally says? Newspeak is a dangerous thing.

How else would I read “thou shall not kill”? It’s literally says that in the Bible. It’s a literal, 100% exact quote directly from the Bible.

What am I missing? Why are people trying so hard to gaslight me? I’m literate, reading isn’t difficult.

Reading is easy.
Understanding is not necessarily so easy.

That is why we must conform to the teaching of God’s Church.

You have taken a single verse, and are running with a meaning that would support what you want it to say.
Several fairly learned individuals have already pointed out that this is in error.

A wise person would check with the Church to verify what it means and conform to it.
Others however, would cling to the authority of themselves and stand in protest of the Catholic Church and her teaching authority.

Which are you?

What other meanings does the word “kill” have? How could one possibly misinterpret the word “kill” and the phrase “thou shall not kill”?

I am post a ton of verses which show the evil of killing other human beings in “self defense” if you want.
I’m not standing against the Church’s teaching though. The 6th commandment according to the Catechism is “thou shall not kill”. It literally could not be more cut and dry than that.

How would you know?

Have you consulted your priest?
Did you read through the Church teaching?
There are volumes written on each of the commandments. Have you checked them?

Church teachings are based on the study of the meanings of the original texts by researching translations, including how the verbiage was used at the time the scripture was written, and the context it was used in. There are many words that do not have an exact translation to English. Taking a few words or a verse without studying the context often leads to incorrect interpretation.

@CCHcolonel

I apologize for your misreading your post. I thought you meant the exact opposite. Namely, our country isn’t free because all these weapons are out there. I don’t know much of anything about guns. I learned about different kinds of weapons to challenge popular misconceptions among anti-gun folks.

That’s my mistake. I deleted the post.

You have an impressive collection. I would be scared to death to handle those weapons. But cheers to you!

God bless you.

Well, it’s pretty much you versus the whole Magisterium of the Church. One of you must be “misinterpeting” the word kill. I’m betting it ain’t them.

Are you seriously suggesting the Magisterium (full teaching authority) of the Church and its leaders - the Bishops and Popes, which has consistently taught authoritatively for hundreds of years that killing in self-defence or defence of others can be justified, has it wrong? And you, contrary to them, have it right?

On what do you base this conclusion? Do you profess superior wisdom to the collective wisdom of the leaders of the Church? Do you profess superior authority to theirs to interpret and correctly apply scripture? Do you profess superior inspiration and infallibility in your teaching?

I was scared first time I had live rounds in my 9mm pistol, years ago. Fear goes away in time, but healthy respect and total focus when handling firearms, together with following the four rules, are mandatory.

In California you can have any capacity magazine you want, as long as it’s not over ten.
I’ve been a little intrigued by the 8 round Redhawk .357. Surprised the pols haven’t tried to classify it as an assault revolver, lol!
