Can anyone explain to me how Pope Francis said we cannot be Christians if we manufacture guns, yet a few days earlier he said

“The great powers had photographs of the railway routes that the trains took to the concentration camps, like Auschwitz, to kill the Jews, and also the Christians, and also the Roma, also the homosexuals,” Francis said, citing the death camp in Poland. “Tell me, why didn’t they bomb” those railroad "

So hes ok with bomb manufacturing, but you cant be a Christian and manufacture guns. Can i be a Christian and own a gun so i can deffend my family from theives?

Thank you,

I suggest not taking everything the Pope says literally. He tends to use hyperbole in order to exhort.

Possibly, but he certainly uses it to confuse.

Every single word a Pope utters could theoretically be divinely inspired 9unlikely, given original sin), but if you can’t clearly send the message, it does the faithful more hard than good.

It gets old being told “oh, you know what he meant…” If I wanted my own interpretation of Christ or Scripture, I wouldn’t be Catholic. One of the foundations of our faith is a clear message on what our Scriptures mean. Leaving it up to the faithful to “interpret what he said” flies in the face of the very essential need for the Catholic Church and the Papacy to begin with.

Hello,

Confusion may well result but I don’t think that is why he does it.

Anyway, just noticed that there is no news article in this thread. So, it will have a short life or get moved…
