Does any one know if the book The Dictionary of Angels by Gustav Davidson correspond with the teaching of the Church? I’m hesistant to go out and purchase it with out knowing all of it’s contents. I have, of course read blurbs from the book and summaries of the book but I may have missed something. I’m mostly just looking for a second opinion. Thanks in advance.

I recommend a book called All About Angels by Father Paul O’Sullivan.

Well, consider two things:

1.) The sheer amount of information contained in the book far, far exceeds what is recognized by the Church as being true, orthodox, or even known.

2.) After a quick “google”, the books primary readership and following are non-catholic sources and organizations, the majority of which are spiritualist or occultic in tenor.

While it may be a solid reference for the entire collection of “angelic knowledge” from many different sources and traditions, what I could find on the internet suggests that it steps well outside “Catholic” orthodoxy or accepted sources. One reveiwer recognized some of the angels as being of the gnostic Aeons, a clearly non-Catholic source of proposed Angels.

If you are looking for a Catholic source of angelic information, then perhaps contacting the Opus Angelorum (here ) would get you a better idea as to what sources would be more useful to you, and maybe even give you a clearer or definitive catholic assessment of the book in question. They do publish some books on angels as well.

Hope it helps.
