I have looked everywhere, it seems. and I can’t seem to
find an answer. A family member has told me that The RCC had a
price on Gutenberg’s head. The logic, the same old tired logic,
is that The RCC didn’t want the Bible available to the masses.
Why they would put in an order of 1,000 copies doesn’t seem
to matter in this family squabble. Anyone in cyber world know
from where this lie grew.

Where did it come from? I'd wager it's origin can be traced no further than to the fevered mind of a rabidly anti-Catholic bigot.
Let me give you a principle. When someone gives you a wild, out-of-left-field anti-Catholic argument, it is not incumbent on you to try to find the alleged source. The burden of proof is firmly on the person making the wild, out-of-left-field anti-Catholic argument. Make them show you a reliable, preferably scholarly, source (frothy-mouthed, wild-eyed, anti-Catholic web site screes do not count). Until they do that, laugh it off, and tell them to keep it to themselves.

The whole thing is a farce-the ONLY reason the Bible survived for the 1400 yars before Gutenberg came along is becuase the Church preserved it. of course if one is Protestant one must believe that Gutenberg is co-redeemer with Christ being that Soal-sciptura doesnt work very well until Bibles were mass produced.

😛 Look I know it’s a wack-job anti-Catholic bigot and I know it’s not incumbant upon me to know the source. I just thought if it was ever brought up again, I could say something like, “Oh yea,
that’s what Joe and Moe Schmo say. But of course they also published that Jesus changed water into grape juice and we never landed on the Moon because they have secret church documents proving it’s really made out of green cheese.”
