I am pleased that Pope Francis led the people in prayer in Italian and not in Latin .

I am over the moon that we have a Jesuit Pope!!! 😃

Viva Papa Francis!! 😃

I would have preferred Latin because I am better at Latin than Italian. 😃 But I understand why he would choose Italian. I just prayed along in Latin with his Italian because I don’t know the prayers in Italian and the Latin went better with the Italian than English would have. 🙂

I know it’s not the point, but he seems very nice. I mean, it’s much more important that he’s holy, but friendly is a good add-on. 🙂

Pray for Pope Francis:

Prayer for the Sovereign Pontiff
V. Oremus pro Pontifice nostro N.
R. Dominus conservet eum, et vivificet eum, et beatum faciat eum in terra, et non tradat eum in animam inimicorum eius. (Ps 40:3)

Pater Noster, Ave Maria

Deus, omnium fidelium pastor et rector, famulum tuum N., quem pastorem Ecclesiæ tuæ præesse voluisti, propitius respice: da ei, quæsumus, verbo et exemplo, quibus præest, proficere: ut ad vitam, una cum grege sibi credito, perveniat sempiternam. Per Christum, Dominum nostrum. Amen.

V. Let us pray for N, our Pope.
R. May the Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. (Ps 40:3)

Our Father, Hail Mary

O God, Shepherd and Ruler of all Thy faithful people, look mercifully upon Thy servant N, whom Thou hast chosen as shepherd to preside over Thy Church. Grant him, we beseech Thee, that by his word and example, he may edify those over whom he hath charge, so that together with the flock committed to him, may he attain everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Maybe change the channel. You don’t have to support their station by watching…😉
I was thinking the same thing but then realized they may be at work and are watching a mandated channel. Where I work our TV’s are only allowed to receive about five different stations. Luckily our boss doesn’t require us to leave it on CNN.

I am glad we have a Pope, and I am excited, but I don’t know what to make of this. The choice of Cardinal Bergoglio is SUCH a surprise, I’ve never even heard of him!

Does anyone know of a good biography of the new pope from a trusty Catholic source?

He was one of the front-runners when BXVI was elected, so no stranger at all to his fellow Cardinals.

I cried when he asked the faithful to bless him before he blessed them. What a humble beginning.

The reports I’ve heard were that the Church in South America is in trouble, having lost much membership to Protestantism in recent years. That’s 40% of the total Catholic population so…
