hi. I guess this movie was made in 2009. I had never heard of it until a friend from church recommended it to me. It is based on a true story that took place in Japan in the early 1900’s. It is a beautiful story abour the loyalty between a dog and his owner. I cried the last hour of the movie. I saw it on Netflix.

my friend from church has seen it 5 times. She said she cried the first 4 times and by the 5th time did not cry. I start tearing up just trying to tell someone about the movie. I was glad my family was out of town so I could cry in solitude. I googled Hachi and read about the real Japanese Hachi and saw I pictures of him. I would really like to see the Japanese movie made about Hachi.
I try to avoid animal movies, but I am glad I saw it. It was so beautiful the relationship between the professor and Hachi.

I also cried. I remembered my golden retriever who has since passed.

It’s a sad and moving movie. I saw it on cable when I was able to see it. I can’t watch it without crying through it.

losing a pet dog is so hard. I probably could not have watched this movie at a theatre. I would have had to leave. thank goodness for cable, satellite and netflix.

The end showed how old and neglected this dog became because he kept running away - when he died, he saw the professor coming for him, and all the stars being out in the evening. The professor’s widow recognized him. I suppose she felt bad because it was going to end this way and she wouldn’t have time to help him anymore. Akita dogs have a ten to twelve year lifespan, and they are very big dogs. They have a tendency to favor one person, although they are good with the other family members.

He literally wore himself down chasing after the person who gave him a home.

I think I recall the scene where the dog catcher was taking a small dog to out of the cage be put to sleep. He said they couldn’t take Hachi (that was the beginning of the story.) The shelter was overcrowded.
