Had my First Confession today

I will be entering the church this Saturday at Easter Vigil. So I had my first confession today, having already been baptized ten years ago in a protestant church. I must say that this first confession went easier and smoother than I expected. Father led me through what to say and do, asked me about certain areas of my life, listened to specific things that I had to confess, gave me advice, penance, and absolution.

All in all, much less scary than I was making it out to be. Now, it seems the hard part is going to be maintaining this clean slate.

Anyway, just thought I’d share.

I also went to confession (not my first) today, and, after having been on retreat,
it was one of my “best” confessions ever!
Although a “cradle-Catholic” this is one sacrament I did not receive often enough. Thank God for a wonderful spiritual director/confessor who has helped me to embrace the healing power of this sacrament!!

Welcome!:harp: I’m so happy for you! I’m so glad your first experience with the Sacrament of Reconciliation was a good one.

Just remember, it is the Sacrament of Reconciliation, so that “clean slate” which concerns you is exactly why we have the Sacrament.

We have such a loving Heavenly Father Who knows our hearts,:angel1: and welcomes us to reconcile with him through confession. I hope your Easter Vigil experience is very joyous, and that your new friends in the parish will surround you in love. :grouphug:

Congratulations! Reconciliation is such a wonderful sacrament. I know what you mean by intimidating. But God already knows your sins, there is nothing to gain and everything to lose by hiding. So, keeping this in mind, I open up. And boy, does it ever feel good!

It’s not a “once and done” sacrament - you get to do it as often as you need to! Praise God for His mercy!
