What is the Septuagint?

As cornbread said, ‘Septuagint’ is the name commonly given for a translation of the Old Testament into Greek (specifically Koine Greek, a sort of international type of Greek spoken and written during Greco-Roman times) made around the 3rd-2nd century BC and afterwards. The New Testament is also written in a form of Koine Greek, as are the writings of many early Christian Greek writers.

In the Septuagint, the Hebrew Sheol is most often translated as Hades AFAIK.

The word Sheol was consistently translated as Hades when the Jews made their Greek translation ( Septuagint or LXX) a few centuries BC. This in Latin was consistently inferos and variations, and in English translations was consistenly Hell.

Right up until the so called Reformation when suddenly Hades and Sheol was either 50/50 Hell/Grave, or 100 Grave but was always grave when it would weaken the Catholic teaching.

In most modern translations it flows thru untranslated as Sheol/Hades and in some versions comes thru as Netherworld.
