St JPII asked that the St Michael prayer end the Mass and I don’t know why it hasn’t taken off more seriously. I wish it would.I know several priest that say the Hail Mary then, ours included, I love it, and we say the prayer to St. Michael at the end of Mass. God Bless, Memaw
I imagine that while the Hail Mary is a big part of the Rosary, it is not considered a ‘devotional’ on its own.so there have been a number of posts stating personal preferences in favor of the practice… What about the Apostolic Exhortation indicating that devotions should not be merged in to the liturgy? That should be ignored than? Seems like cafeteria style…
It wouldn’t bother me if “Ave Maria” is sung during the Mass. Same thing but praying twice, right?Doesn’t bother me in the least.
Great point! It wouldn’t bother me if “Ave Maria” is sung during the Mass. Same thing but praying twice, right?![]()
Right. We have it as a post communion meditation at times. It wouldn’t bother me if “Ave Maria” is sung during the Mass. Same thing but praying twice, right?![]()
Good post up what he says. Thanks to all for your replies! Appreciate it.
I’m going to honor the request of the other parish families and contact our Bishop about the matter …and see what he thinks about Pope Paul’s instruction on the matter of blendering practices of piety and personal devotion in to the Liturgy.
Thanks again everyone
For the record, we’ve already talked with the Pastor. He’s pretty authoritarian and simply stated that he read our letter with concern. He had just returned from leading a pilgrimage to Medjugorie which is another issue…Good post up what he says.
Also what your pastor says after he finds out you called the Bishop.
You and those others should go to him first.
With all due respect, what about this thread leads you to believe that we view Mary as a threat or that she is being ‘dissed’ in anyway?Right. We have it as a post communion meditation at times.
My only question is:
Why does Our Lady seem to be such a threatening figure to so many?
I venture if you counted up the threads from people who were upset about some “Marian” thing…it would astronomical.
Sad. Really sad.
As I always say, on the last day, I don’t want to have to explain to Jesus why I dissed his mama.
They’re prayer intentions. We ask for the assistance of the angels and saints. 'nuff said.
This is just another in a whole string of daily threads in which someone is “bothered” by prayers to/for/with Mary. With all due respect, what about this thread leads you to believe that we view Mary as a threat or that she is being ‘dissed’ in anyway?
That’s fine… The thread was pretty cordial until this point. You can have your opinion, but your condescension doesn’t help. This is just another in a whole string of daily threads in which someone is “bothered” by prayers to/for/with Mary.
It’s tedious and sad.
That’s MY opinion.
Your mileage may vary.
If leading the Hail Mary at the end of the prayer intentions is the worst thing that happens at the Masses? You’re pretty blessed.
Will you accept the Bishops word that the Hail Mary is ok or will you take it higher if he doesn’t give you the answer you seek? Thanks to all for your replies! Appreciate it.

The Marian antiphon of the current liturgical season is Salve Regina. Does your choir sing the appropriate Marian antiphon at every sung Mass like ours? At any rate you’ve seemed to have had some sort of false reading of what’s been written in this thread. For me anyways the problem is not that it has anything to do with Marian prayer; it’s that the Hail Mary doesn’t appear in the Missal. The Mass is not something for every priest to toy with and project his own version of things which is pretty well what I experience when I attend Mass at different parishes throughout the diocese. One of the worst abuses I far too often witness is announcements being made before the dismissal (meaning the Mass has not ended!) which just makes me cringe. One time the announcement was of a woman who worked for a pregnancy center and actually mentioned that they offer post abortion counseling. DURING MASS - UGH. I could have (or should have) walked out, as I had done on a previous occasion where a man in a vest and hard had came up to make an announcement (again during Mass) and soon changed into a top hat. This is just another in a whole string of daily threads in which someone is “bothered” by prayers to/for/with Mary.
