Hail Mary, weekday mass...

As suggested I am trying this question here…

Hello,

I have a question… First time at a weekday Mass. When the Priest enters the chapel he does a form of the Hail Mary. I have no idea what they are saying, it is repeated a couple of times.

Apparently 40+ years of going to church was not enough. Can someone point me to what this is? I feel like a dope. The weekday mass is a little different in a chapel you can’t hide in the back to figure it all out.

Was it a Mass of the Blessed Virgin Mary? The first part of the Hail Mary forms the Entrance Antiphon for one of her Masses.
 
It may have been the Angelus. This prayer is traditionally said at 6 am, noon and 6 pm, but some priests say it right before Mass.

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
Hail Mary full of grace…

Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it done unto me according to thy word.
Hail Mary full of grace…

And the Word was made flesh.
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary full of grace.

Pray for us O holy Mother of God
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray. Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ Your Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of His resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

When I was able to go to daily Mass (not at my registered parish), the priest led the Angelus before the opening hymn. I liked it a lot.

I think he mentioned inone of the holilies that he was born and raised in Italy, where it’s a more common practice for weekday services. 🤷
