Does the Hail Mary in Latin translate word for word as we say it in english?

I know the Glory be is a bit different in latin “…and always and unto the age of ages”.

My knowledge of Latin mostly comes from medical and ecclesiastical terminology, but I looked up the Hail Mary in Latin and it seems to translate almost exactly. “Womb” might be more accurately “abdomen” or “belly” (the Latin uses ventris), but other than that it seems to be word for word. Even “at the hour of our death” is literally those words and not an approximation.

The traditional translation is very close to verbatim. Latin constructs sentences differently than English, for example, Latin does not require articles like “the,” and because the language is inflected, certain prepositions are included the noun (like “whose” in English - we don’t need to say “of whose”). They can also use a participle in place of a clause making the helping verb “is” unncessary.

Here is my “literal” translation:

Hail Mary, grace full, Lord with you. Blessed you among women and blessed fruit of your womb: Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and in hour of our death.

Cheers!

Thanks. I’m trying to learn it and I think understanding what the words actually mean is very helpful.

[if my Latin 1963 - 1965 is still with me]
