I recorded “Our Father” in russian, “Hail Mary” in russian and “Hail Mary” in Church Slavonic.

If you want to listen to Church-Slavonic Creed (not much difference with russian one), I have it at my site too.

If you need help with russian in the future, you can ask me 🙂
I love the monotone reading! Reminds me of: monasterygreetings.com/sounds/item2490_track1.mp3 (the psalter from the hermitage of Holy Cross)

Russian Orthodox Church and Byzantine Catholic Church use Church-Slavonic.
Latin Rite Catholics use russian.
(in private prayers, I love latin and church-slavonic =)
Then how long has the Russian Republic had Roman Catholic Churches (whose members I assume are Polish, Lithuanian, etc.) that use Great Russian as a liturgical language? You’d think they would use Latin?

Well, Russian Mass for latin-rite catholics in Russia should have been introduced at least since Vatican II! =)
And, there are many catholics of russian origin here. Many of them were baptized Orthodox, but later joined the Catholic Church, and didn’t want to become “byzantine rite”, but preferred latin rite. Just like I did.

Our parishes usually provide, in addition to russian, - latin, polish, english, french, spanish and english masses in different times of the day. Usually at sunday there are many masses in different languages.
In St.Petersburg, we also have Tridentine mass once a month, in one of the parishes.
And, we have byzantine catholics here, who have Divine Liturgies said in Church-Slavonic.

Inity has excellently replied. The church I go to in St.P is “Our Lady of Lourdes” which used to belong to the French consulate and continued to function throughout the communist era. I go to the 12 o’clock mass on Sundays which is in Latin and Russian. What I enjoy so much is the reverence and respect the parishoners show in church. Quite different to the French!!!
The big Catholic church in St.P, St.Catherine’s has masses in several languages but the French and English masses are at awkward times. The Russian catholics I know ARE Russian, and I’d like to get to know more, as I mostly know Orthodox, with whom I work, when in St.P.; For me going to mass in Russia is pure joy. And to answer Inity’s question: I shall be in St.P
from 16th April -15th May 2009.

I usually visit St.Catherine, because it belongs to Dominicans, and I adore Dominican Order (and so have plans to join it). And, sometimes I visit “Our Lady of Lourdes” (for beautiful latin mass at Sunday) or Dormition church, which has latin mass at Saturday, and Tridentine mass periodically. There are also parish in Pushkin with great icon of Our Lady of Fatima, and couple of churches in St.Petersburg which I haven’t seen yet.

Æanna: You will spend plenty of time in St.Petersburg! I would be happy to meet you in person, invite you for a cup of tea, and chat about catholic things 🙂

Æanna,
I received your PM, but the forum is buggy and doesn’t accept my reply saying “recipient is not found”.
Of course I would like to meet you in St.Petersburg.

You can send me a e-mail to inity@mail.ru . I would give you my phone number and other info.
