I think the Halloween tradition comes from catholic tradition and is not based on Irish pagan religions. Because this Halloween thing can also be found in traditions that have nothing to do with Ireland, like the “day of the dead” in mexico:

Of course the society made it extreme. Just like Christmas is full of unchristian traditions. But I like Halloween, because of this day people in Germany forget the Reformationstag(the day where protestants in Germany celebrate Protestantism) .
