Halloween.

Halloween isn’t a sin to attend right? I mean, the Holiday now has NOTHING to do with another religion. It may have earlier (like a long time earlier), but now I just see it as a secular holiday… not dedicated to anything except having fun.

It isn’t, right? Because my school (a highly Catholic school taught by Cistercian monks) doesn’t care if we celebrate Halloween.

You will get answers from both sides, but personally I see nothing wrong with it. Halloween is actually a quite Catholic Holiday.,

Halloween is awesome! I work at scaring people all October. It is like laughing at death.

Exactly! it also gives me an excuse to completely geek out my history buff self. I’m SO into the Victorian era, and Halloween provides the perfect excue to doll my house up like an abandoned Victorian manner and dig up my old costumes!

While I’m not thrilled about the symbolism of the holiday (being very afraid of death), I have always enjoyed Halloween. It is very much a landmark of the US fall holiday calendar (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas seasons) that ramps up as the North American days get shorter and colder.

These days, I doubt very much that anybody other than death-obsessed youths see anything “spiritual” in the holiday. Halloween has become a secular/commercial event (as are 90% of the events surrounding Christmas). Enjoy it and don’t worry.

Don’t forget-- Halloween means “All Hallow’s Eve.” Which means it’s the night before All Saints Day, Nov. 1st. Which is a holy day of obligation.

Trick or treat. Go to a party. Dress up. Have fun. But don’t forget to go to church the next day to celebrate all those who have gone before us and now enjoy the beatific vision… and whose ranks we hope to someday join.

Personally I go all out on halloween just to rub it in paganism’s face that Christianity has won.
