Should Faithful Catholics be celebrating Halloween, knowing the origins of this festival coming from the Druids? Isn’t it a satanic festival?

Good faithful Catholics can allow their children to go trick or treating. And stress the all saints day.

This is not the Jehovah’s Witnesses forum.
 
A baptist friend once told me this regarding Halloween "

"Why should I celebrate the devil? "

I think she had a very GOOD POINT !!!
 
We don’t celebrate evil, we play dress up and eat candy. Adults consider our own end and mortality. As we did with Christmas, the celtic cross, Greek philosophy and other originally pagan things, Catholicism takes these things and uses them for good purposes.

I lied.

She reminds me of a caller on Frasier. His reply is much like mine would be if she told me that. The caller’s name was Roger

at Cornell University they have an incredible piece of scientific equipment known as the Tunneling Electron Microscope. Now, this microscope is so powerful that by firing electrons you can actually see images of the atom, the infinitesimally minute building blocks of our universe. Roger, if I were using that microscope right now, I still wouldn’t be able to locate my interest in your problem.
 
It is a very fun holiday…we can laugh at death, cuz it has no power over us! What is to fear? Nothing!!

I love Halloween. And we get chocolate! 👍
 
No, Halloween is NOT a “satanic festival”. It is the Eve of All Saints’ Day, which was once known as “All Hallows” or “Hallowmas,” and that is where the term “Halloween” comes from. While it does happen to fall at the same time of year as a Druid festival called Samhain, and it may have picked up some cultural aspects of Samhain (I think bonfires and the use of jack o’ lanterns are among them) Halloween, by definition, is a Catholic/Christian observance as its very name indicates.

If some Satanists or Wiccans choose to observe Halloween in their own evil way, that doesn’t change the fact that we Catholics still have the best claim to it!

The fixing of the feast of All Saints on its current date of 1 November is attributed to Pope Gregory III (731–741), but from the testimony of Pseudo-Bede it is known that 1 November was already associated with All Saints in Great Britain by the beginning of the 8th century.[11][12] The Roman Catholic festival of All Saints is known to have been introduced in the early 7th century, on the occasion of the dedication of the Pantheon as a church, but on the continent, it was celebrated on 13 May throughout the 7th and 8th centuries. No it is not a satanic festival. Halloween All Hallows’ Eve is a reference to All Saints Day.

Was the extent of the Druid festiville dressing up in costumes, knocking on people’s doors and getting candy?
 
It is certainly not a religious festival. Why do people like to dress as witches and monsters and make themselves look ugly and darkened? Why is there an occult theme? Why are tricks or magic acts encouraged for reward? What would the saints think about this behavior prior to their feast?

Children don’t suffer to get me chocolate. I don’t have minions to send out to retrieve candy. I just go to the store and buy bags of Halloween candy to give out and pray for leftovers! 😉

Although I do hear about some of the things that happen to trick-or-treaters. Seriously. What’s wrong with this world? :eek:

You really don’t know how you get your chocolate do you? Google it. BBC has done many reports on the child exploitation involved. Those children suffer for everyone to get their precious chocolate.

It’s sickening and when catholics give it up for lent even more so.

Seriously though, you can buy cruelty free, or fair trade chocolate. 🤷

And how is it sickening when Catholics give it up for lent?
