My parish has been handholding since I’ve been there (10 yrs) don’t know when they started. It doesn’t really bother me but I don’t do it…I fold my hands.
Well I hold Jesus in my hands nearly everyday and then I EAT him! I suspect that would make most non-Catholic EMTS faint…I would faint. The EMTs would be holding my hands.
I’d skip the Mass and go to the adoration.I just opened another office and last Thursday I attended my first Mass in the local Church. The Mass was in a very small very crowded day Chapel. When the Our Father came I started to fold my hands in the usual manner only to be nearly manhandled by the nice lady next to me and the 200 year old man on the other side. once they had my hands firmly in their grasp I noticed that EVERYONE was holding hands-even the Deacon and the Priest-Had I not held hands the circle would have been broken and no telling what calamity would have befallen the place!!!
I figured I had come to Post Vatican II Land UNTIL the closing. At Which point the Monstrance came out and we adored the Lord by singing two verses of O Solutaris Hostia (in Latin) followed by a complete Litany of the Saints. It was on Both Knees and Bowing by everyone on the way out. Ill be back next week ready to hold hands again, if thats what it takes.
And miss receiving out Lord and Savior??? Besides they’d probably grab me be the hand anyway…I’d skip the Mass and go to the adoration.
Actually, my friend, if someone grabbed my hand as I was praying, I would skip their mass. While I would be as charitable as you were, I would not return except for Adoration. It would be a Saturday night or early Sunday morning at a different parish then Adoration there. And miss receiving out Lord and Savior??? Besides they’d probably grab me be the hand anyway…

If I didnt let callous Bishops and homosexual Priests abusing our children run me off and i sure not going to let a 90 year old man who wants to hold my hand during the Our Father do so. Recieving the Eucharist the greatest gift the Lord has given us People have risked their lives to be able to do so- over the centuries millions were killed for tryng to obtain it. To skip Mass for fear someone is goung to want to hold my nhand woud be the unltimate in cuting off ones nose to spite their face…Actually, my friend, if someone grabbed my hand as I was praying, I would skip their mass. Just fold your hands as quick as the priest says, “Let us pray the words…” No problem there. And miss receiving out Lord and Savior??? Besides they’d probably grab me be the hand anyway…
We don’t.It seems to be taken as fact that Handholding for the Our Father has been going on in the majority of parishes for 30 years.
How long has your parish been holding hands for the Our Father?
I think you missed where I said I would go to another parish. If I didnt let callous Bishops and homosexual Priests abusing our children run me off and i sure not going to let a 90 year old man who wants to hold my hand during the Our Father do so. There is a charitable way and a non-charitable way to hold hands. People who grab your hand, whether it be 14-90 year olds are obviously in the second category. Grabbing the hands of people is disrespectful of the rights of others. I’m glad at my church, we have never held hands as long as I have been there. People have died for the right to respectful worship. If I didnt let callous Bishops and homosexual Priests abusing our children run me off and i sure not going to let a 90 year old man who wants to hold my hand during the Our Father do so. Or clasp them behind your back until the prayer starts. I adopted this strategy from a priest who wan’t concelebrating. I’ve seen people grab other people’s folded hands; no one seems to know how to grab mine behind my back. They might get a handful of my bum as well :bigyikes:Just fold your hands as quick as the priest says, “Let us pray the words…” No problem there.
Makes me wonder what exactly was the part of the RS that discouraged the Handholding. That finally went away with the Sacramentum document and an order from the Bishop who knew about it for quite some time and allowed it until the document issued. Now holding hands has died out .
