I cannot help but get the impression that there are a lot of people out there in the teen-to-early 30s age group who suffer from an enormous amount of confusion in the area of sexuality and relationships. They are like ships outfitted with big sails and no rudders. They start out believing they want to go wherever the wind of impulse takes them, and they get cynical about sailing when they find themselves in places they don’t know how they got to and don’t have a way to leave and when they get into collisions with other ships that none of the captains sees a way to prevent.

That is where this relative seems to be, alas. And you want to reach in and say–the rudder! The rudder! If you learn to use it, you can tack against the wind!! You can steer clear of the rocks! It really does serve a purpose!!
I think you’re right. I wish I had an answer, but I don’t.

Remember, God can still reach him. It’s sad that a talented person like David Bowie would cross-dress on an album cover, and claim to be bisexual, get a divorce and then marry again. He did change into a somewhat normal person, but then he joined in with the media’s dysfunctionality, so I dumped everything I owned related to him. I hope he’s doing better.

I came across a friend’s deep dark secret after his death. I was helping move all of his stuff into storage from his apartment and came across it. I took the evidence into the back and burned it and then never spoke about it again. He was already dead at the time of course so there was no reaching him but I did have a mass said for the repose of his soul. I didn’t like finding out about it but I think it did help me answer why his death was so painful. For me it least it seemed as if God was trying to reach him.

Anyway, If the guy you’re talking about is posting things on the internet for the world to see I don’t think it would hurt to send him a letter.

Thank you. Yes, it is very much like that, I think.

I know that these things are on the internet for the world to see, but I gather from reading them that this relative did not intend for “the world” that actually read them to include his or her aunts, uncles, or cousins still in the Catholic Church. My sense is that things will remain a great deal more polite if I say nothing about them, since I can’t think of anything to say about them this relative will consider nice. The stuff has a clear “if you don’t think what I’m saying is nice, then you are the problem so get lost” vibe, to put it mildly, if you get my meaning.
