Wow. I thought he might convert someday simply because he had twelve children. Not that one must have so many but having so many is so at odds with the contraceptive mentality that has overtaken Protestantism.

It has been years since I listened to him, but if I recall correctly I thought he showed a fairness to the Catholic/Orthodox Faith. He of course objected to the teachings, but he seemed to do so in a way that surprised me. But maybe I’m making that up in my mind since as I said it has been years ago.

As a Catholic, I listened to his show for many years and read many of his books and I always felt the same thing, He had a lot of blind spots when it came to certain Catholic beliefs (and his misrepresentation of them showed he didn’t understand them), but I never felt he was anti-Catholic. I always thought he was a really smart and honest guy who would make a great Catholic if ever got past his misconceptions.
LOL - My favorite was when he said the Deuteros should not be in the Bible because they were not inspired (I guess he decided what was/was not inspired). Now he has not only the Deuteros but the additional books of the Orthodox Canon.

Hope he writes a book regarding his conversion and I wonder what will become of the CRI.

Yes, that seems a little ironic. 🙂 I would love to hear his explanation of how he resolved dilemmas like that in his mind-- not to needle him or to put him on the spot, but just as part of the story of how his conversion unfolded.

I hope he writes a book too, and that it addresses issues like that above.

Hard to say what will become of CRI or his ministry in general. I get the impression that he is only a piece of the CRI ministry-- albeit a very prominent piece-- and he could conceivably be replaced, either by him resigning or being asked to leave. If he became a Catholic, he would be big guns on the Catholic speaking circuit, that’s for sure. 🙂

YES! I’m sure he is dealing with much worse from his former groups. I myself am encouraged because this will be a great witness to his followers some of whom are VERY anti-Catholic. Though Orthodoxy never seems to be viewed with the same venom that the Catholic Church is.

Only because most American anti-Catholics are even more uninformed about Orthodoxy than they are about Catholicism. Anti-Catholic polemics of the type we encounter rose directly from the Protestant “Reformation” which was almost entirely a Western Civ phenomena. We hear a lot of the anti-Catholic nonsense because we are English speakers and American Protestant anti-Catholics simply are repeating what’s been passed down from anti-Catholicism as it appeared in England.

That is astounding! My ex was a fan of his at the time he switched from being a minimally Catholic convert to a raving Baptist, telling me that I worshiped the devil (the Pope). For a while I blamed HH’s radio show. Forgiveness.

Found this on CRI

equip.org/perspectives/is-the-roman-catholic-church-a-cult/

“Roman Catholicism historically has affirmed the essential teachings of the Bible, while also teaching doctrines which are inconsistent with that affirmation and which seriously compromise the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

“Although certain doctrines and practices in Roman Catholicism might properly be termed “heretical,” we would not label them as a cult — for example, like the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons. The errors of Roman Catholicism are heretical in that sense that they compromise or undermine the orthodox confession of the church. In short, we regard Roman Catholicism as neither a biblically sound Christian church nor a cult, but a Christian church with a mixture of orthodox and erroneous teachings.”

I realize he did not convert to Catholicism but I wonder if his view on this have shifted somewhat.

I don’t know what Mr Hanaagraff’s view on eternal security was or is but this situation brings up the question, If he was saved before he entered the Orthodox Church, did he now lose his salvation or was he never saved to begin with? If he was saved and can’t lose his salvation then whats the big deal?
Calvinists will likely just use this as their out and ‘prove’ he was never a true Christian to begin with:
1 John 2:19 New International Version
They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
Clearly he was/is a Christian with a heart for God who has served him for a very long time. So maybe this passage they often quote doesn’t apply to everyone who does not subscribe to their fallible interpretation of the scriptures.

Dr. White’s criticism ^^^ of recent comments by Hank on his program…which he is continuing, BTW.

And I have to say, I do not agree with Dr. White on much, but I agree that Hank should probably consider another title for his show. Because his audience is mostly Sola Scriptura/Sola Fide practicers. You can not answer questions the same way now that you see through a different prism. Just not going to work.

I commend him for challenging himself and holding to his convictions. But you have a reformed audience that expects reformed explanations, not the one’s the Orthodox Church would provide.

If I were still reformed, I would no longer listen to his program.

I wouldn’t change a thing about the show title. Challenge them and give them a different and better perspective.

As I’m a devotee of Catholic-Orthodox ecumenism, if he causes a few reformed Christians to jump to Orthodoxy, all the better. Their sacraments are valid too.

I love the idea of introducing people to historical Christianity.

Just think there should be transparency.

And it almost appears as if Hank is sort of backpedaling some and dancing around the questions he was given. I guess he has to to try and keep his base audience, but that’s a little misleading.
