Happy Ash Wednesday to everyone! I am so excited to be able to attend service today. I have wanted to go for years and never had my act together.

I hope all of you have a great day!

I live in Houston, not to far from you. I am glad you are going to get your ashes to day it is great tradition.

Peace be with you

Yes, I’m wishing everyone many blessings today, Ash Wednesday, and for the time of Lent. God bless you!

While I get your sentiments, those who are saying “Happy Ash Wednesday” and “Happy Lent” are really detracting from what this season is. Ash Wednesday is a day of penance, fasting, and abstinence. We mark ourselves with ashes to remind ourselves that we are from dust and from dust we shall return. Lent is an intense penitential time to prepare ourselves for Easter.

Hi Monica, Try and make a good sacrifice for Lent. You’ll find Easter to be so much more Joyous.

Happy Ash Wednesday to all of my CAF friends and family…

If I may - I have a question.

I remember when I was young, on Ash Wednesday Catholics would have a cross on their forehead.

But all I have been seen in the last few decades is a what I call a “smudge” on their foreheads.

When did this tradition change…

I decided to post this question on here instead of opening up a new thread.

Thanks much ~ and may God grant us many blessings during this Great Lent…!

The tradition has not changed. I imagine its kind of like not every priest has good Cross making abilities. I have been to some priests that couldn’t draw their way out of a wet paper bag. 😉 While others were absolute artists.

At todays Mass I recieved a well scribed Cross on my forehead. However after Mass we all went for a Fish luncheon and by the time I got home my Cross was more like a smudge.

That’s not what this post is about. It was about wishing people happiness, goodness, love, kindness.

Thanks.

Did you get your ashes? I saw a lot of people at the Sacred Heart co cathedral with ashes on forehead with the cross imprint. Ash was so dark and thick, some fell on my face

Peace be with you

I went to 9 am service, at Epiphany and got ashes. It was so nice. I work at a local Walgreens and a customer, (very kind gentleman in 60’s or 70) comes in, and he attends same Mass I do. He is such a joy to see. He was also at Lent Service yesterday.

I do so enjoy going to church!

Thanks for asking.

Monica
