Such a wonderful woman. An atheist who hated religion and despised altruism, a woman who demanded that her Catholic lover abandon his wife, a champion of personal selfishness and of so many more such virtues.

I have a friend who is an Ayn Rand devotee. Years ago, when I was agnostic, he sent me all her major works, trying to convince me of the truth of atheism. I read them and was not impressed in the least. Besides being a horrible writer, her view of the human condition is so flawed as to be almost laughable. Her occasional brilliance only tends to magnify the darkness in her soul, sort of like looking toward random bright flashes of light in a totally dark graveyard.
