Happy Birthday, Cardinal Burke!

He will be 70. He was ordained a priest the day before his birthday so he can always have a couple days of celebration back-to-back. I was actually able to serve at his 25th anniversary of ordination Mass…18 years ago.

I think it’s really awesome that Cardinal Burke has been promoting the Holy Face chaplet devotion for spiritual warfare. One of our “forgotten” devotions, forgotten no more thanks to him and Fr. Heilman.

If he were 80, he would now be ineligible to vote at future conclaves. The whole shock around Cardinal Burke being appointed Patron of the Knights of Malta was the fact that he was only in his late 60s…quite young for a cardinal to be given a ceremonial post usually reserved for the aged.
