PROPERS OF THE FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING

INTROIT Apocalypse 5: 12; 1, 6

The Lamb that was slain is worthy to receive power and divinity and wisdom and strength and honor; to Him be glory and empire for ever and ever. – (Ps. 71. 1). Give to the King, O God, Thy justice, and to the King’s Son Thy judgment. V.: Glory be to the Father . . .

**COLLECT **

Almighty and everlasting God, who in Thy beloved Son, the King of the whole world, hast willed to restore all things, mercifully grant that all the kindreds of the nations that are divided by the wound of sin, may be brought under the sweet yoke of His rule. Who liveth and reigneth, with God the Father. . .

EPISTLE Colossians 1: 12 - 20

Brethren: Giving thanks to God the Father, who hath made us worthy to be partakers of the lot of the Saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His Blood, the remission of sins; who is the image of the invisible God, the first born of every creature: for in Him were all things created in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible: whether thrones, or dominations, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by Him and in Him; and He is before all, and by Him all things consist, and He is the head of the body of the Church, who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in all things, He may hold the primacy because in Him it hath well pleased the Father that all fullness should dwell; and through Him to reconcile all things unto Himself, making peace through the Blood of His Cross, both as to the things on earth, and the things that are in heaven, in Jesus Christ our Lord.

GRADUAL Psalms 71: 8, 11

He shall rule from sea to sea, and from the river to the end of the earth. V.: And all kings shall adore Him, all nations shall serve Him. Alleluia, alleluia. V.(Dan. 7. 14). His power shall be an everlasting power, which shall not be taken away; and His kingdom a kingdom that shall not decay. Alleluia.

TRACT Psalms 88: 27, 28, 30

He shall cry out to Me: Thou art My Father: My God, and the support of My salvation. V.: And I will make Him My first-born, high above the kings of the earth. V.: And I will make his seed to endure for evermore: and His throne as the days of heaven.

+ GOSPEL +

John 18: 33 - 37

At that time: Pilate said to Jesus: Art Thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered: Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or have others told it thee of Me? Pilate answered: Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered Thee up to me: what hast Thou done? Jesus answered: My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, my servants would certainly strive that I should not be delivered to the Jews: by now my Kingdom is not from hence. Pilate therefore said to Him: Art Thou a King then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest I am a King. For this I was born, and for this came I into the world, that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth My voice.

OFFERTORY Psalms 2: 8

Ask of Me and I will give thee the nations for thine inheritance, and the ends of the earth for thy possession.

SECRET

O Lord, we offer unto Thee the Victim of man’s reconciliation: grant, we beseech Thee, that He whom we immolate in this present sacrifice, may Himself bestow on all nations the gifts of unity and peace, even our Lord Jesus Christ Thy Son, who liveth . . .

**PREFACE (Preface of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King) **

It it meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: Who didst anoint, with the oil of gladness, Thine only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to be the eternal Priest and King of the universe; that by offering Himself a spotless Victim and peace-offering on the altar of the Cross, He might accomplish the mysteries of man’s redemption, and that having subjected all creatures to His dominion, He might present to Thine infinite Majesty an everlasting and universal Kingdom; a kingdom of truth and life; and kingdom of holiness and grace; a kingdom of justice, love, and peace. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Thrones and Dominations and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:

COMMUNION Psalm 28: 10

The Lord shall sit as King for ever: the Lord shall bless His people with peace.

POST COMMUNION

We who have received the food of immortality, beseech Thee, O Lord: that we who glory in our warfare under the banners of Christ our King, may reign with Him for ever in His heavenly dwelling place: who liveth and reigneth, with God the Father…

ACT OF CONSECRATION OF THE HUMAN RACE TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS
(By Pope Pius XI)

------------------------------------------------------------

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race, look down upon us, humbly prostrate before Thine altar.

We are Thine and Thine we wish to be; but to be more surely united with Thee, behold each one of us freely consecrates himself today to Thy Most Sacred Heart.

Many, indeed, have never known Thee; many, too, despising Thy precepts, have rejected Thee.

Have mercy on them all, most merciful Jesus, and draw them to Thy Sacred Heart.

Be Thou King, O Lord, not only of the faithful who have never forsaken Thee, but also of the prodigal children who have abandoned Thee, grant that they may quickly return to their Father’s house, lest they die of wretchedness and hunger.

Be Thou King of those who are deceived by erroneous opinions, or whom discord keeps aloof and call them back to the harbour of truth and unity of faith, so that soon there may be but one flock and one shepherd.

Be Thou King of all those who even now sit in the shadow of idolatry or Islam, and refuse not Thou to bring them into the light of Thy kingdom. Look, finally, with eyes of pity upon the children of that race, which was for so long a time Thy chosen people; and let Thy Blood, which was once invoked upon them in vengeance, now descend upon them also in a cleansing flood of redemption and eternal life.

Grant, O Lord, to Thy Church, assurance of freedom and immunity from harm; give peace and order to all nations, and make the earth resound from pole to pole with one cry: Praise to the Divine Heart that wrought our salvation: to it be glory and honour forever.

Amen

Excellent, thanks for posting, as this prayer needs to be said frequently these days.

Christ the King is celebrated on the last Sunday of October.

From catholicculture.org/liturgicalyear/calendar/day.cfm?date=2006-11-26 - Before the reform of the Roman Calendar in 1969, this feast was celebrated on the last Sunday of October.

From churchyear.net/ctksunday.html - Officially called the Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King, it is celebrated on the final Sunday of Ordinary Time, the Sunday before Advent. This year it falls on November 25, 2007.

From the St. Joseph Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours it is a Solemnity on November 25, 2007.

And my Parish calendar lists it as being on November 25th also.

TLM communities (or at least some of 'em) celebrate feasts according to the pre-1969 Calendar :yup: So for them it IS the feast of Christ the King today.

So happy feast day to all you darling rad-trads out there!

:nope: More denial of church authority? The new calendar is in place, why not follow in obedience?

Church authority says it’s okay 👍 .

The “old” missal is tied in with the “old” calendar. You really can’t celebrate the TLM without following the older liturgical calendar.

Just for curiousity’s sake - here’s today’s bulletin from St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis where I’ll be going today shortly - towards the back it shows the propers and the special devotions immediately after mass for today’s special feast day (Benediction/Act of Consecration/Litany of Sacred Heart/Procession/etc.):

It’s an espcially “big deal” here since the priests incharge of the Oratory are with the Institute for Christ the King Sovereign Priest - Archbishop Burke has granted a plenary indulgance (with normal conditions) for all attending the oratory today.

Peace in Christ,

Well today is the Feast of Christ the King in the Extraodrinary form.

The new calendar is in place, why not follow in obedience?
There is a good reason why the Feast of Christ the King is not celebrated at the end of the liturgical year.

According to the rubrics, the Mass of the feast of Christ the King replaces the Mass of the Sunday. If this happened in the Traditional Missal, the Mass replaced would be the Last after Pentecost. This Mass is extremely important since it comes just before Advent and orients the liturgy in an eschatological manner at the end of the liturgical year in preparation for Advent. For which reason, no matter how many Sundays there are after Pentecost, this Mass always comes before the First Sunday of Advent. An eschatological character especially fits the closing of the liturgical year.

The feast of Christ the King in the Traditional Missal is relatively recent (1925) and consequently lacks a pronounced eschatological dimension. It is more social. For this liturgy to replace the Last after Pentecost would be an impoverishment.

OTOH, with the NO, the revisers were able to take into account the feast of Christ the King at the end of the year, and consequently, a lot of the readings for the feast itself are eschatological in nature, and the Sundays before also have an gradual eschatological focus.

More denial of church authority? The new calendar is in place, why not follow in obedience?
I celebrated the feast of Christ the King today in a parish that is 100% faithful to the Magisterium. The Prior of the local Dominican Monastery celebrated the Mass. He is also a theological professor who teaches seminarians on Vatican II.

Before you start claiming that my parish is disobedient, make sure that you know what you are talking about. I attend the Tridentine Mass and we follow the older calendar. It is not disobedient, it’s just the way things are done.

So you think the hierarchy instituted a new calendar so the old one can still be followed? Makes no sense.
