Happy feast St. Benedict!

This great saint has interceded for me many times and I am very grateful. I have been wearing the St. Benedict medal for about 3 years now. I have experienced God and St. Benedict’s intercession through this medal.

What is a good thing to do as a “thank you” to St. Benedict on this day? Any recommendations? I have read some of his rule and feel like I would give him a headache with how I am 😛

Thank You!!

Dang… I forgot to have my St. Benedict Medal blessed yesterday.

On the current Benedictine calendar, March 21st the feast of St. Benedict’s passing and July 11 the solemnity of his birth.

Maybe you could check out joining the Oblates; they are a Benedictine third order and focus on living The Rule in secular life.

They’re not really a third order. Benedictine oblates, unlike third orders, are attached to a specific monastery and not to the order itself.

I’ve been an oblate for 11 years; this was made very clear to us during the formation program. However there are similarities to third orders, as a commitment (the oblate promise) is made.

We renewed our oblation at our monastery last night and had a feast with the sisters.

The Roman calendar celebrates an obligatory memorial for St. Benedict’s on July 11.

St. Benedict is listed in the Martyrology for March 21. A memorial for anyone listed in the Martyrology can be celebrated in the Roman Church if it is a weekday which allows the celebration of an optional memorial for a saint.
