Happy, Holy Feast of Mary's Assumption!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

What a glorious Feast day today! Mary enters Heaven and sits at the right Hand of her Son, and she is a sign for us Mother and Model of the Church. The Catechism assures us:

…MARY’S MOTHERHOOD WITH REGARD TO THE CHURCH

Wholly united with her Son . . .

964 Mary’s role in the Church is inseparable from her union with Christ and flows directly from it. “This union of the mother with the Son in the work of salvation is made manifest from the time of Christ’s virginal conception up to his death”; it is made manifest above all at the hour of his Passion:

Thus the Blessed Virgin advanced in her pilgrimage of faith, and faithfully persevered in her union with her Son unto the cross. There she stood, in keeping with the divine plan, enduring with her only begotten Son the intensity of his suffering, joining herself with his sacrifice in her mother’s heart, and lovingly consenting to the immolation of this victim, born of her: to be given, by the same Christ Jesus dying on the cross, as a mother to his disciple, with these words: “Woman, behold your son.”

965 After her Son’s Ascension, Mary “aided the beginnings of the Church by her prayers.” In her association with the apostles and several women, “we also see Mary by her prayers imploring the gift of the Spirit, who had already overshadowed her in the Annunciation.”

966 “Finally the Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things, so that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of lords and conqueror of sin and death.” The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians:

In giving birth you kept your virginity; in your Dormition you did not leave the world, O Mother of God, but were joined to the source of Life. You conceived the living God and, by your prayers, will deliver our souls from death.

. . . she is our Mother in the order of grace…

MARY - ESCHATOLOGICAL ICON OF THE CHURCH

972 After speaking of the Church, her origin, mission, and destiny, we can find no better way to conclude than by looking to Mary. In her we contemplate what the Church already is in her mystery on her own “pilgrimage of faith,” and what she will be in the homeland at the end of her journey. There, “in the glory of the Most Holy and Undivided Trinity,” “in the communion of all the saints,” The Church is awaited by the one she venerates as Mother of her Lord and as her own mother.

In the meantime the Mother of Jesus, in the glory which she possesses in body and soul in heaven, is the image and beginning of the Church as it is to be perfected in the world to come. Likewise she shines forth on earth until the day of the Lord shall come, a sign of certain hope and comfort to the pilgrim People of God.

I encourage everyone who doesn’t pray the Rosary to start doing so on this blessed day, unless they are physically unable.

The Rosary is a big part of what is saving my life, showing me how to keep perspective, showing me what really mattters: the love of Jesus Christ.

Mary’s Assumption is a sure sign of God’s love!

Even though it took hundreds of years for Mary’s Assumption to develop in to a tradition in the Church and almost two millennia to be defined as a dogma, the fact remains that this solemnity is truly pointed to Christ and his omnipotence. Quite contrary to Christ using his own power to ascend to heaven, the Assumption shows Christ using his power to draw Mary up…as he draws all of us toward him. And Mary being the first member of the Church, it is fitting that she would be the first assumed.

Christ’s Assumption of Mary to heaven is a great sign of hope for all!

Let us remember the great Marian devotee Saint De Montfort’s motto - “God Alone” May we all know in our hearts and minds that God is ALL we need.

Thanks for the beautiful quote and special blessings on your 63rd anniversary of Baptism!
I renewed my own Baptism (which was 80 years ago) in renewing my total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, using the Act of Consecration composed by St. Louis de Montfort.

If you have never read this saint’s little treatise on True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, in which he explains how total consecration is a perfect renewal of our Baptismal promises, I encourage you and all who are reading this thread to read it. The online version is HERE

Thank you all for your love of Jesus through Mary and for your replies on her Feast Day. May we continue to honor our Mother as Jesus did!

I’m glad everybody had a nice day.
The city where I was born has a big Feast every year. Although it is basically a street party, I’m always happy to see that so many attend the devotions and Masses as well. There are 3 Masses on the Feast day and the main one at 10 am is usually so packed that you physically can’t get in the church. I’ve attended that one standing in the vestibule nearly on the steps. If you go to the early or late Mass, you more likely get a seat, and still very nice. Plus there is a shrine outside with hundreds of people leaving candles and petitions and a daily Rosary (the shrine is up for 4 days so everyone attending the street festival can visit), and 2 processions of the Mary statue (day time and night time with candles), and fireworks at the end. And food vendors all up and down the street, but I buy all mine from the church booths because the Italian food is homemade and very good and helps the church. Also they have rides and entertainment.

I like the idea that they have a big party in Mary’s honor but still do all the religious things and that so many people join in the religious devotions rather than just ignoring them in favor of the party part.

The Mary statue is always on the Church porch during the fireworks (which are across the street) and I like to think of her watching the fireworks show. Buona Festa to all.

One one looks at the promises associate with the Rosary, it seems to me insane not to do it, since it only takes 20 minutes, and as the Popes tell us, it brings down so many grace.

Pope JPII tells us how close our Mother is to us, and is given to each one of us from the cross, to have a unique relationship with her.

What would I do without her?

Thanks for the description of both religious devotions and the festivities at Mary’s Feast Day. Mary’s presence at the Wedding of Cana and her concern that the couple have enough wine for the guests is a good indication that Mary is present at wholesome gatherings where her children are happy and not ignoring God. Yes, dear sister, If people only knew how much she loves us, and is so close to us. Yes, the promises about the Rosary are essentially the message that praying it is a way to stay close to Jesus through Mary. That is the great gift.
