Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Since the liturgical celebration of this Feast was transferred from March 25 to today, due to the fact Mar. 25 was on Good Friday this year, many may not notice this Feast on their calendars – unless it is a Catholic Calendar, or if they are daily Mass participants and the priest announces the Feast before Mass.
For me, it was a special confluence of dates. On March 25, although it was Good Friday, I rejoiced to pray my Act of Total Consecration after receiving Jesus in Holy Communion. God gave me devotion to Our Lady and her “Fiat” (Latin for “Be it done”) a very long time ago. Perhaps as far back as the first year in High School when I joined the Legion of Mary and also began to learn Latin!
It was a very long time ago, but that grace, that persistent Mercy of God has remained in my soul, sometimes weak, but today stronger than I can remember it ever being: “To give myself totally to His Will” in union with Jesus and Mary as they gave themselves not only on Calvary but in all their prayers, works, joys and sufferings. Renewing our Baptism and Consecration calls us all into “new” Life in Jesus. God’s Mercies are new every morning!
God willing, today I’ll renew my Act of Consecration, in a spiritual Communion, since I’m not able to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Hopefully, many others have chosen to consecrate themselves today, totally for the first time or are renewing this beautiful act. I’ve also begun to repeat more often the short phrase from De Montfort, which St. John Paul II and Mother Teresa of Calcutta often repeated in praying to Our Lady: “Give me your heart!”
Thank you Lord, for the Gift of Mary to be our Mother! Happy, Holy Feast day to all – especially those who said “Yes” to Jesus’ words “Behold your Mother”, and have taken Mary into their lives as John did on Calvary. “Behold, I make all things new!” (Rev. 21:5)
