I wish I could post the whole facebook post where I got this from, but somehow I can’t.

The poster, an Indian male commented…
Stop to polluting this society.
Don’t hate Male, stop fabricating story against Male, without any contribution from Male you can’t celebrate any special day or normal day also.

There’s an international men’s day, actually.

I’m an Indian (not from India, though, thank the Lord) and yeah, the culture is pretty bad when it comes to matters of equality.

India is still a pretty male-preferring society, I think. At least, that’s what I learned a few years ago.

I don’t see anything wrong with an international women’s day, as long as there is an international men’s day as well. 🙂 Don’t put one over the other.
Firstly, my picture is a fair representation of the plight of men in western society.

About India, your comments are what I had previously thought, based on the western media stories, until I saw the following documentary by an Indian woman which shows how Indian woman are, in collusion with their lawyers, most cynically abusing the “abuse” laws to destroy fathers, as they are in the rest of the world.

Me thinks you have an agenda in this thread lol. India is a terrible place for women in general. An awful patriarchal society does not mean that women don’t hurt men at all (in fact, most of this is usually retaliation), it just means that overall, women are not respected as much as they should be. They deserve a Women’s day a lot more than the US or my country.

From what I read in the news, women in India have to deal with a lot of rape or sexual harassment, disproportionately higher than in other places. Both locals and foreign women have been subjected to these incidents.

It’s really bad. You can still see it in the Indian culture here even though we are living in a good place.

My grandmother is from there and sexism is so ingrained in the culture.

When I do a quick google search, the most articles that pop up are about how “normalized” and “accepted” gender bias is in India.
Yeah. The sexism is more hostile than the one we are kind of used to, I guess. The belief that women are husbands’ property, for example, is kind of popular. Child marriages are still happening too. The country is also famous for gang rapes.

A friend of mine was assaulted (not sexually, she was slapped by a guy) in India because she wore skinny jeans.

I knew a priest from India who confirmed all this. I agree with you and Brittany. They need a women’s day a lot more than we do.

Thankfully it has dropped. Sickens me that this sort of thing still happens. Even sex selective abortion 😦

Aside from sex selective abortion and sexual harassment, there’s also FGM especially in the Middle East and some parts in Africa.

I’ve heard stories of Indian men beating their wives and even pouring acid on them for giving birth to females instead of males.
Yes, those are the sorts of stories which formed my erroneous impression of India.

My grandmother talks a lot of domestic violence and she heard of some acid attacks that happened in her village. I don’t know the statistics on that, though.

I experience the more watered down version of it. That I am my future husband’s property and I need to wait for marriage so I can ask him permission to dye my hair…? Lol! It’s silly but I would take that over acid any day.

“From what I read in the news”.

Yes, that had been my impression too.

An impression gained from our western media. As far as I know, now, that impression is false. However, we can’t argue “impressions” against “impressions”. If you provide me some evidence for yours, then I’ll look into it.

On the other hand, there are the marital “abuse” laws in India (Law 498a) which are heavily in favour of women, and killing men.

Care to prove that, maybe? If you’re gonna have an agenda at least be intelligent about it…one documentary about a particular issue doesn’t invalidate the sexism in India. It just shows that there’s an additional issue.

Yawn. Highly selective quotation. I was throwing the burden of proof back on a person who had made a statement. Please read all of a (short) post before responding.

😣

Motherhood is often forced as the women’s role yet it is degraded.
