You are right.
The media has no conscience except the ratings. To win in the ratings they employ more definitive media players, whose ‘authoritative’ views are made to seem like the norm. Those same authoritative media spokesmen and women have become louder and louder, more shrill and more convinced of the rightness of what they preach. Disagree with them and they hound you mercilessly, raking up muck, editing the sound and the written word to make themselves look right and look all important.
But guess what - they are failing.

The Australian newspaper is all about how low the media has fallen in the eyes of the public. The article states -
The public aren’t buying it any more. The public has watched for too long as media “personalities” keep spreading a message that doesn’t fit with the reality of what most people think, feel and believe. The growth of the Internet and the spread of diverse opinions has undermined the stranglehold on information and ideas the main media outlets have had for so long, so what do the media personalities do? They become more shrill and more obnoxious and they keep spreading their own images through the media system they live in. Before you know it, most of them are famous just for being famous and no-one respects them anymore.
