For non-Orthodox Christians, Nativity Lent began on Nov. 11 and will end on the Feast of the Nativity (Christmas).
Orthodox Christians fast from wine, olive oil, all meat and meat products, all dairy and dairy products and for those Orthodox Christians who are married, sexual relations with their spouses (non-married don’t have sexual relations ever obviously). Approximately 50% of the year is spent fasting. Although not everyone is able to keep the fasts, it is our goal. 69th Canon of the Apostles said that if a layperson did not fast every Wednesday and Friday, then that layperson is to be excommunicated luckily for us most spiritual fathers are more lenient these days.
For Orthodox Christians…any of you attempting the “Niners” this fast? Eating only once a day Monday - Friday at the Ninth Hour aka 3pm?
