“O Creator of the whole universe, Who alone have power over seasons and times, bless this year with Your bounty, O Lord, preserve the world and your Church in peace. Through the payers of the Theotokos, save us.”

Do the Eastern Churches believe this is the anniversary of Creation? I didn’t know that.

I take it this assumes a certain historical textual literalism against Semitic mentality?
It’s all news to me. 🤷 Whereas we don’t begin the Church Year for a while yet, apparently the Byzantines do? Whatever … I ran across this with mention of “7522” in the title but nowhere else in the article. Then there’s this item albeit from a wiki, which seems to shed some (very dim) light on the whole concept. 🤷

I know that some of the Church Fathers would calculate the age of the world using Biblical genealogies and Greek and Roman chronologies such as St Theophilus of Antioch.

7522 Anno Mundi is the current Byzantine Imperial Year… which was adopted by the Byzantine Church. For whom, 31 August was the start of the church year for 7522 A.M.

The church year calendar year numbers are based upon a reckoning from the Septuagint of how many years prior to the incarnation the creation specified in Genesis occurred.

It’s firmly rooted in old testament literalism, at least as for its origin.

Another term for it that I’ve heard is the Xth Year of Adam’s Fall, tho’ I’ve also heard it as Xth year of Adam’s Covenant.

That is certainly interesting 🙂 It’s neat to see that the same questions come up throughout time–it makes humanity seem very cosy!

Year 7522 (from the first day of creation)

I’m sorry my friends, but scientific evidence proves otherwise 😃
