In the Byzantine Rite, from what I have learned, the Sunday in the Octave of Christmas is the feast of St. Joseph.

Happy St. Joseph’s day to you all.

“O Joseph proclaim to David the ancestor of Christ our God, the great miracles you have witnessed. You have seen the Virgin with child, given praise with the shepherds, adored with the Wise Men and the Angel of the Lord has appeared to you. Intercede with Christ God that He may save our souls.”

Sancte Ioseph, ora pro nobis

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong,
so prompt before the Throne of God,
I place in you all my interests and desires.
O St. Joseph do assist me by your powerful intercession
and obtain for me from your Divine Son
all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord;
so that having engaged here below your Heavenly power
I may offer my Thanksgiving and Homage
to the most Loving of Fathers.
O St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you
and Jesus asleep in your arms.
I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart.
Press him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me,
and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath.
St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls,
pray for us.

Amen

I have that prayer. I never knew it was from the Ist Century. How do people know it is that old?

I don’t know the story, I think I remember that it was inscribed somewhere on a wall. St. Joseph is the greatest after Jesus and Mary.

I would like to believe that too. Some take offense to that due Luke 7:28. No offense to St. John.

I forgot about that verse. So, when St. John got to heaven after Holy Saturday, now who’s greater? I would say they are equals. The theory comes in when people complained when St. Joseph was put before St. John in the canon of the Mass.

St Josif Obruchnik

Feast of righteous Josif as far as I know is celebrated at feast of Sobor of the Mother of God. All related Holy Persons to nativity of Our Lord - Mother of God, St. Josif, St. Iakov, brother of the Savior, King David the ancestor of St. Joseph are all on Dec 26, the Sobor of the Holy Mother of God. Also Eastern Magi are shown. Otherwise I think St Josif is also a quite saint without much feasts: Icon of Sobor of Mother of God.

What does Josif Obruchnik mean?

This is Jewish man of Holy Scripture entrusted to care for Holy Mother of God and Christ, as infant child. He is called in West Iosef Plotnik after his occupation and among Orthodox more often Iosef Obruchnik because he was bethrothing (?) to Mother of God which is called обручение.

Saint Joseph, Patron of a happy death, pray for all the dying, that none of them may be condemned to hell. For the sake of the Passion of Christ. Amen.

Equal in dignity as created beings but not equal in grace. Mary is the greatest saint and I would argue St. Joseph is next.

Happy New Year’s and don’t forget t remember St. Pope Sylvester I, feast Dec. 31

Sancte Ioseph, ora pro nobis
St. Joseph, pray for us.
San Giuseppe, ora per noi.(?)
San Jose, ora(?) por nos.

Add some languages for your nationality.
Pax on the last day of the year.

Incredible prayer, but I can’t seem to find anything about it, except that it was found the 50th year of Our Lord. Where was it found? By whom? What was the original language? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Neither can I. St. Joseph, forgotten by so many. He is also known as the silent saint since he never said anything.

My instincts tell me that this prayer is much later than the first century.

Before I forget it, the icon that Volodimyr posted is the Icon of the 26 of December: Synaxis of the Theotokos (corresponding to now 1 Jan in the Latin Church).

You can argue but it doesn’t change the fact that most Liturgical traditions of the Church assign St. John the Baptist the second place after the Theotokos. In the Byzantine tradition St. John has 6 feasts, His: Conception, Nativity, Beheading, Synaxis, 1st Finding of His Head, and 2nd/3rd Finding of His Head. He is commerated every Tuesday and he is found on every Iconscreen. He is named after the Theotokos in the Dyptychs at the Divine Liturgy.

St. Jospeh’s has one Solemnity and one Optional Memorial in the Latin Church and his insertion into the Roman Canon was only done by Blessed John XXIII and not without controversy.

Its also worth noting that in icons of the nativity, its not even required to include St. Joseph. There just needs to be Christ, the Theotokos, a donkey, and an ox. I can’t see how St.Joseph can be considered second to the Theotokos before St. John the baptist when he doesn’t even have to be in the Nativity icon.
