This is from Psalm 137. the footnote is this…3 [9] Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock: the infants represent the future generations, and so must be destroyed if the enemy is truly to be eradicated.

I believe that God does this at the abortion clinic everyday.

Oh I see, abortion as a grave (possibly mortal) sin isn’t the fault or doing of the one who actually gets or performs the abortion, it’s God’s fault. Of course. All sin is God’s fault.

Silly me, that’s why Hell exists because nothing is our fault or doing …

God has nothing to do with abortion clinics. We humans made that mess ourselves.

Try reading the entire psalm. The author was lamenting the distance he was from his home, Jerusalem. He is saying those who get vengeance on Babylon for what Babylon did to Jerusalem will be happy in their vengeance. The author is admitting he will not be the one to get the vengeance because he doesn’t say anything about gaining this pleasure himself. How is a person hurt more than to have his/her children killed? This is the worst vengeance the author could come up with.
The author is not calling anyone to this vengeance. He knows ‘vengeance is Mine says the Lord’. (And no this passage is not in this particular psalm).

The author is not calling anyone to the vengeance he is simply saying who ever gets to will take pleasure in it.
God would not take such vengeance today because He gave His Son for our sins and no longer wipes us from the face of the earth for wrong doing. He set a Judgment Day.

In order to see what God’s plan is for us, that we can see from example, is think of the story of creation before the fall, and also look at the gospels and all that Christ had done for us. Those are two things God is “responsible” for. We fell, we hurt, we even cause others to trip over us. But we must get back up and help those who have fallen as well. :twocents:

We are not allowed to take vengence because God put a mark on Cain to warn us not to kill murderers, although the natural inclination is to do so, as Cain admitted and God affirmed.

Romans says that “God has handed [some people] over to your depravity”. Abortion is “murder”, an “abomination” and “unspeakable crime” according to the Catholic Church.

Yes, vengence does belong to the Lord on earth and in heaven. Who says God does not wipe people off the face of the earth anymore? How can anyone justify saying that God does not still today eradicate future generations and be happy about it, as the Psalm says?

What on earth is that supposed to mean? Do you mean to say that God kills innocent children at abortion clinics? I hope that’s not what you mean, because that is completely untrue. Human beings do that of their own free will. God would never harm an innocent child that way. He did not create the human race just to destroy it, He is not cruel, and He does not create innocent children just to see them murdered. Again, human beings kill these children, NOT God. And abortion is a horrible, immoral, violent practice that must be illegalized and gotten rid of.

I seriously doubt this has anything to do with abortion. I take it as violence against future generations. Spiritually, I take it to mean that the devil will have his fun with the likes of us. I believe he is in virtual bliss right now. 😦

The parallel’s are intirguing. God’s good purpose applied to man’s evil choices. I doubt chris means to say God is to blame for any sin or to diminish the gravity of the sin of abortion. But I feel confident that God weaves our evil choices into His plan.

The Babylon-Woman- Children, connection fits well to the dynamic that feeds abortion clinics.

Actually psalms137 is a psalm about a grateful heart but that’s a different issue.

Psalms 136 8-9 O daughter of Babylon(fn8) you destoryer, happy the man who shall repay you for the evil you have done to us. Happy the man who shall seize and smash your little ones against the rock! (fn9)
fn8 Daughter of Babylon is Hebrew idom for the city of Babylon
fn9 According to the ruthless custom of ancient warfare children were thus indeed killed…But it seems more probable that here the psalmist is personifying " the daughter of Babylon" as a mother whose little ones are the adult , not the infants, citizens of the city.

If you view the children as the future structure of matriarchy embodied, culture structured on the maternal bond, they are the most potent enemy of society structured on the marital bond. “She is queen on her throne and not in mourning.” She is the generating force of procreation and the man is a helpmeet. She is not in mourning because she is not barren. This is the ancient war for the nucleus of human society. The war between law that binds mothers and offspring and law that binds men and women in the state of matrimony. Happy the man who re-establishes culture structured by the marital bond. I probably fall way short of articulating these concepts well.

First- This was written, or at least originated, during the Babylonian captivity
Second- At this point the Jews did not have a belief in any sort of afterlife

I’m not an a pro-scriptural interpreter, but this verse makes a lot more sense when you take into account the fact that the Jews were currently undergoing extreme hardship at the hands of the Babylonians and did not believe in any retribution that may come in the afterlife- so they asked God for retribution in this life.

because God’s an all-loving God and wouldn’t be happy about wiping out his creations.

May i ask; are you saying that those who get abortions are God’s enemies and that by allowing them to have abortions God is thus killing off future enemies to Him?

to fbl9,

Yes, in most cases. There are a few cases where the babies are actually angels “for sometimes we entertain angels unaware”. I believe there are some cases where the baby is seperated from the mother because God is seperating the wheat from the chaff, the baby is the wheat and the mother is the chaff.

I see what you are saying…But this verse can only be taken as the aborted babies are also God’s enemies…This verse does not support that the babies are the wheat…Sorry but it is not harvest time yet…There will be only the last day when the wheat will get put into the bin…

if abortions are phroibited and condoms too, the next evil we are gonna fight will be
the blow job… than will be the kisses.
